[We arrive at the threshold of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Midwest Field Point building. Outside, the weather is bright, it’s sunny summer, and birds are singing. A black man walks with confidence through the corridors towards the workspace of our main heroine, who is toiling over a report on the fourth victim of an unknown disease. Our main heroine’s desk is piled high with various folders. It seems she has been immersed in her work for a long time. Tearing herself away from the report for a moment, she reads a newspaper clipping stating that the quarantine in the destroyed Raccoon City zone has been extended until 2040.]

Nathan: Grace! Grace!

[He knocks on the file cabinet to get her attention.]

Nathan: Grace Ashcroft.

Grace: Uh, yes?

Nathan: My office.

Grace: Oh... Um... Coming!

[She clumsily takes a folder of documents, dropping the rest.]

Grace: Oh, shit.

[She rushes into an office where her boss is already waiting. The expression on his face bodes nothing good.]

Grace: I-If this is about the report you asked for yesterday, it’ll be ready in three—no, no, two days, tops.

Nathan: Put a hold on that for now. We found another body. One that exhibits the same pathology as the others we’ve been investigating. Now I need a good technical analyst on this.

Grace: OK.

[He hands her a folder.]

Nathan: I need your eyes on the crime scene. The Wrenwood Hotel.

[Grace sighs heavily—this place seems to mean something to her.]

Nathan: Look... I know that’s where your mother was murdered and I know it’ll be upsetting for you.

[Grace stands and stares at the floor.]

Nathan: Alyssa died eight years ago. Perhaps it’s time for you to face the past? Confront that fear head-on. Grace... I won’t force you to go, but do you think you can do this for me?

[Grace gives a weary shake of her head.]

Nathan: Investigate that crime scene and report back to me with your findings. That’s all for now.

[Next scene. Grace walks through rainy city streets, searching for the place. She checks the maps on her phone. She is so lost in thoughts that she doesn’t notice the many passersby on the streets and collides with one of them, a rough-looking man in glasses and a hat.]

Grace: Sorry.

[The first chapter of the story begins.]

GRACE. Wrenwood.

[Grace goes to the hotel.]

Grace: It should be around here.

[Wrenwood City Guide]
Welcome to the beautiful and historic city of Wrenwood!
Come soak in the nostalgia of a bygone era with chic art galleries, classic restaurants, and plenty of stores where you can shop till you drop.
If you want to get away from the modern hustle and bustle, Wrenwood is the place to be!

[Grace approaches the hotel. It feels as if the place has been abandoned for a long time and is shrouded in blue plastic sheeting. The entrance is also blocked by classic yellow police tape. Grace hesitates at the entrance, not daring to go in.]

Cole: Hey, miss?

[A police officer in a raincoat approaches her.]

Cole: Hey, that’s a restricted area. You can’t go in there.

Grace: A-Ah, oh, um... Wh-Why?

Cole: It’s an active crime scene.

[Then Grace remembers she’s from the FBI and fumbles in her pockets for the credentials.]

Grace: Oh! Right, sorry. Um... Just a sec.

Cole: Oh, you’re FBI?

Grace: I am.

Cole: Investigating all these strange deaths, huh?

Grace: Mm-hmm.

[Cole lifts the tape, allowing Grace to pass inside.]

Cole: This the fifth one, now, right? I heard they all have the same weird bruises. So you think it’s something infectious, or terrorism, or... Why else would the FBI be investigating, right? Hey, are you with me?

[Grace is completely absorbed in herself and doesn’t react to Cole at all.]

Grace: Oh, um. Uh... There might be answers inside.

Cole: Yeah. Sure. Right.

[He lifts the blue plastic sheeting.]

Cole: Be careful in there. Whole building’s condemned—word is they’re finally gonna bring the whole place down.

Grace: Yeah. Thanks.

[Grace enters a narrow alley and makes her way through piles of construction debris.]

Grace: Why am I even here?

[She enters the hotel building through the back door used by the kitchen. She turns on her flashlight. It feels as if no one has been here for years. She stops at the door leading from the kitchen. The door’s window is broken.]

Grace: I can’t… It’s too much. Come on, Grace.

[She gathers her courage and opens the door. After looking around a little, she opens the report given to her by her boss.]

[Investigation Report]
Submitted by: FBI Special Agent, Kyle Eames
On September 28, 2026 at 11:20 p.m., the body of a man was found at an abandoned hotel in the Midwestern city of Wrendwood.
The body was discovered in the hotel restroom. Based on the level of decay, it is suspected to have been there for several days.
Prior to this incident, multiple cases of similarly mysterious deaths have been reported in locations across the United States.
H. Ramirez (59): Pronounced dead at Stonerville Hospital
E. Wilkins (51): Pronounced dead at Hotel Dehnbar
K. White (67): Pronounced dead at Green Oak Apartments
M. Warren (90): Pronounced dead at Night Valley Nursing Home

[Grace examines the bar, located just past the kitchen. Police markers are everywhere. The building is in a very poor state and is deteriorating before her very eyes. Everywhere there is mold, dust, dirt, and the smell of rotting wood. The mere thought of touching most surfaces is disgusting. On the bar counter, Grace finds a photograph of herself with a key taped to the back and an inscription.]

"Let’s talk. Room 204."

[She peels off the key, and at that moment, someone locks the back entrance to the building. Grace, already frightened, becomes terrified. Her voice cracks with fear.]

Grace: Wh-Who’s there!? Oh my god.

[She frantically rummages in her briefcase and pulls out a gun, preparing to meet the stranger. Long seconds pass, but no one comes.]

Grace: Wh-What do I do?

[She uses the key to open a door leading into the hotel corridors and heads towards room 204.]

[Hotel Pamphlet]
The Wrenwood Hotel has been welcoming guests from its doors in 1928.
Experience the warm embrace of nearly a century’s worth of history along with Wrenwood’s time-honored traditions.

[Grace hears someone’s footsteps coming from the upper floor... But she continues on anyway.]

[Notice of Closure]
To all employees,
Following the recent incident, management has been working hard to restore public trust.
Unfortunately, due to the extent of the damage, it is unclear if it will be possible to reopen. Consequently, it is with great regret that we must announce the closure of The Wrenwood Hotel.
We apologize greatly for the impact this may have on you and your families, and wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude for the support and hard work you have brought to the long-standing business.

[As she passes a fireplace, a deer skull falls off its mantelpiece and startles Grace.]

Grace: Shit...

[Finally, she finds room 204. Someone has turned on a radio inside, but it works with heavy interference.]

Radio: The body of a man...Elbridge this... The police...string of mysterious deaths...

[On the bed lie many photos of Grace and her mother.]

Grace: What? Who...?

[One of the photos captures Grace’s attention—it shows her sitting on the floor with a laptop. This photograph awakens memories in Grace. We are transported back to that day.]

[Grace sits on the bed typing on a laptop. Her mother enters the room.]

Alyssa: Hey, hun.

Grace: Hi, Mom.

Alyssa: You have been on that thing all day.

Grace: Well, if you’re gonna work so late…

[Her mother sits on the bed next to her.]

Alyssa: Get some sleep, eh?

[She tries to take her daughter’s hand, but Grace pulls her hand away.]

Grace: I’m almost done. Just a sec.

Alyssa: What am I going to do with you?

Grace: What you always do. Nag at me until I go to bed.

[Her mother looks out the window at the heavy rain falling outside.]

Alyssa: It’s really coming down hard.

[The phone rings.]

Grace: Mom, phone. Mom.

Alyssa: It’s right beside you.

Grace: Ugh, fine! Hello?

???: Miss Ashcroft?

Grace: Yes.

[The man abruptly hangs up.]

Alyssa: Who was it?

Grace: Dunno. They asked for Miss Ashcroft and then they hung up on me.

Alyssa: Rude.

Grace: What the...?

[Suddenly, the lights go out.]

Alyssa: They’re coming. Grace, we need to go.

[She hastily begins to pack her things.]

Grace: Go where? Mom, what’s going on?

Alyssa: Hurry!

[She hands her daughter a compact flashlight.]

Grace: Wait, who’s coming? What’s wrong?

[Her mother urges Grace to be quiet.]

Alyssa: We need to keep our voices down.

Grace: This is ridiculous.

Alyssa: Come on!

[She pulls her daughter towards the door.]

Grace: Tell me what’s going on.

Alyssa: Now is not the time.

[She takes a gun out of her purse.]

Alyssa: Stay close.

[Grace realizes the situation has become serious and becomes frightened.]

Grace: Mom, wait!

Alyssa: Grace! Come on, keep moving.

Grace: I’m coming!

Alyssa: Grace! Hurry! Keep moving!

[They descend to the first floor. They are met by a greying man wearing glasses and carrying a flashlight.]

Hotel Manager: Hello? Who’s there? Oh. I’m so sorry about the power outage.

Grace: Uh, what happened?

Hotel Manager: Oh, it’s probably the electrical panel. It’s forty years old, so it doesn’t take much to trip it. It’s really no excuse, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Grace: Oh, no, it’s fine.

Alyssa: Yeah, don’t worry about it.

Hotel Manager: I should have it fixed soon, I just need to find my—

[Suddenly, someone in a black robe with a hood covering their face throws a plastic bag over the manager’s head and strangles him. The killer has a pale face, and their mouth is illuminated by a smile with bloody gums.]

Grace: Oh my god!

[The killer stabs the manager in the throat with a knife. Blood spurts brightly, and the manager falls to the floor.]

Grace: Mom!

[Alyssa shoots the killer several times, and he falls into the next room.]

Grace: What the hell, Mom!?

Alyssa: No, no, no! Grace! No.

[She closes the door to the next room.]

Alyssa: Grace, stay close to me.

[Now Grace is not just scared—she is horrified and on the verge of a nervous breakdown.]

Grace: Are you gonna tell me what’s going on!? Mom, what are you doing!?

Alyssa: Something important.

[She hides something behind a painting.]

Grace: What did you hide behind that painting?

Alyssa: I’ll explain later. We need to find another way out. Grace! Come on! Come on, Grace! Come on, hurry! Come on in now, Grace.

[They enter a room, and Alyssa locks the door.]

Grace: I’m calling the police!

Alyssa: No! Don’t call the police!

Grace: No, no, no! Shh! Hello? Yes, I want to report a murder... No, murders!

Alyssa: Grace!

[She looks at her daughter with regret... Grace, meanwhile, is in terror, pacing back and forth across the room in a fit of hyperventilation.]

Grace: Th-The Wrenwood Hotel. Yes. Hurry! Please. The police are on their way. Oh my god.

[She tries to catch her breath.]

Grace: Mom, I feel like... I’m gonna throw up.

Alyssa: Grace? Grace, look at me. Grab my hands. Look, at me. Look at me. In...and out...Breathe in, and out. Oh, Grace. I promise you I will explain this all to you one of these days.

[Alyssa hugs Grace. They are both in tears.]

Alyssa: Grace. Please know that you are my hope. Never forget that.

Grace: What are you talking about?

Alyssa: Just... I love you.

Grace: I love you too.

Alyssa: OK?

Grace: Mom, I’m scared!

Alyssa: No, no, no. We need to find a way out of here now.

Grace: B-But we don’t have any of our stuff, though.

Alyssa: We can come back for it later, Grace.

Grace: I don’t under—

[At that moment, behind Alyssa, the killer appears... and plunges a knife into her throat. The gunshot wounds slow him, but he can still move. Blood gushes from the wound in Alyssa’s neck, and she dies almost instantly. Some of the blood splatters onto Grace’s face, much to her horror.]

Hooded Man: Found you.

[However, the wounds overcome him, and he falls, knocking over a table with a kerosene lamp and a bottle of whiskey. A fire starts. Unable to contain her emotions, Grace collapses in tears and cries of pain beside her mother’s body.]

Grace: No... No! Mom! Mom, please! No...Mom!

[She embraces her mother’s body. We return to the present.]

Present Day

[Grace sits tearfully on the floor of that very room 204, where she was with her mother 8 years ago. The photos on the couch are part of the things they left here, and it seems someone has been rummaging through them.]

Grace: I’m so sorry, Mom. This is all my fault.

[Suddenly, a phone rings. Grace is puzzled but goes to answer it. But it turns out it wasn’t the landline ringing, but a mobile phone lying under the photographs.]

Grace: Hello? Who is this?

[No one answers, and she throws the phone onto the bed.]

Grace: I need to get out of here.

[However, Grace remembers her mother’s words about things left here.]

Alyssa: (memory) Something important. I’ll explain later.

Grace: What did you hide behind that painting?

[Thunderclaps sound outside. Grace walks over to the painting. From behind it, she retrieves a leather case containing a diary.]

[Alyssa’s Journal]
October 17, 2018
Work has settled down and we’re heading to a new town the day after tomorrow. I’m thankful my freelance work allows me to work anywhere, but I’m worried about Grace. It’s difficult for her to make friends when we’re constantly on the move. Maybe we can spend a little more time in the next town.
October 18, 2018
Finished some research and stopped in a cafe when I noticed a hooded man. I could have sworn he was watching me. Maybe I’m just being paranoid.
October 19, 2018
I’m thankful was for before and I’m thankful now. He’s definitely following me. We only just got here, but I think we should move on. I can’t let anything happen to Grace.

[Also in the case, Grace finds a disc with no markings. Suddenly, Cole approaches her. He is holding his neck and is silent.]

Grace: S-Sorry, Officer. What’s wrong?

Cole: Something...stung me.

[His voice sounds quiet and somewhat strained, as if he is forcing the words out.]

Grace: Are you OK?

[The hand that was holding his neck goes limp, hanging like a whip. Cole’s body begins to crackle as if the bones inside are breaking.]

Grace: Wh-What do I do? Um...

[Cole’s gums are bleeding heavily, and he spits several teeth into his palm.]

Grace: Oh, shit...

Cole: Can’t…

[He attacks Grace and grabs her arm. She fights back fiercely, but her arm gets caught on a luggage cart.]

Grace: Come on!

Cole: Go...in there!

[She tries to aim her gun at him, but Cole knocks it out of her hand.]

Cole: Can’t...go...in there!

Grace: I’m stuck! W-Wait! What are you doing!?

[Cole pulls out a police shotgun, and a brutal struggle begins within himself. He tries to stop the zombie inside him from shooting the trapped Grace. Eventually, she manages to free herself, grabbing the fallen back-door key along the way. She picks up some metal rod, trying to fend off Cole.]

Grace: Get away! G-Get away from me!

[The zombie inside Cole overcomes him, and he loses more and more humanity, even biting the metal rod.]

Grace: Shit! Stay away!

[Zombie-Cole even manages to take a big bite out of Grace’s arm, after which she breaks free and runs to the second floor.]

Grace: What the hell!? What the hell!? What the hell!? What the hell!?

[Quickly opening the stairwell door, she begins to fight Zombie-Cole by the window, smashing it. Picking up a shard of glass, she stabs Cole in the neck with it and pushes him out into the street. Catching her breath and examining the wound on her arm, she notices... a lit light bulb on a nightstand. Someone else is here!]

Grace: What the...? I-Is... Is anyone there?

[Swallowing her saliva and overcoming her fear, she climbs higher up the stairs and approaches a door, which she carefully opens. Behind the door, she finds a private room where a man with long dark hair sits in a soft leather armchair. He is listening to a gramophone, and beside him lies a strange mechanical mask with magnifying lenses.]

Grace: Hello?

???: It hasn’t been easy. But after much effort, here we finally are.

[The man’s body is as pale as the zombies’ and covered with scars.]

Grace: Who are you?

???: I’m the one who planted that body.

[He puts on his mask.]

???: I’m the one that brought you here. I know now that you’re the one that I’ve been searching for. The special one. The chosen one. Miss Ashcroft.

[The man rises from his chair. He is a veritable giant, at least compared to our heroine, who tries to flee, but the door is closed. The man puts her in a chokehold, and Grace loses consciousness.]

???: Shh... Rest now, Grace. We have so much to do.

LEON. ELBRIDGE. A Few Minutes Earlier.

[A stern man in army boots walks through the dark night streets. He is an investigator. He is at a crime scene—a body lies on the asphalt covered with plastic sheeting. He speaks to a female coordinator via a concealed radio.]

Mission Coordinator: Talk to me. Is this one like the others?

Investigator: Same black blotches.

Mission Coordinator: And it’s not postmortem lividity?

Investigator: No… No, this is different. That’s six now. Six survivors of Raccoon City all dead from the same thing.

Mission Coordinator: Yeah, that’s…not good.

Investigator: No… No, it’s not.

[He gets into a car.]

Mission Coordinator: But...I have something for you. The team has settled on a person of interest. Someone with ties to Umbrella.

[The investigator picks up his phone and sees a photo sent to him—it is the same giant who is holding Grace.]

Mission Coordinator: Victor Gideon.

Investigator: Who is he?

Mission Coordinator: A former T-Virus researcher. Hey, I just got a report of a missing police officer. It might be unrelated, but he disappeared near where the fifth body was found. You there, Leon?

Leon: Yeah. I’m here.

Mission Coordinator: You OK?

[He looks at his aged and tired face in the rearview mirror.]

Leon: Send me the address. I’ll check it out.

[He starts the car and drives towards the hotel. As he pulls up, Victor is already carrying Grace out of the building over his shoulder.]

Mission Coordinator: You almost there?

Leon: Just about. Stuck in traffic.

[He notices Victor with Grace on his shoulder emerging from the alley.]

Leon: You’ve got to be shitting me.

[Victor stops and watches Leon trying to reach him through heavy traffic. A concerned passerby, seeing Grace, asks Victor a question.]

Woman: What’s going on?

Woman: Is she OK?

Victor: Oh, she’s fine. I’m just taking her home.

[He pulls out a dart gun and shoots the passerby, as well as several other random bystanders. Leon draws his gun and runs towards them. Victor smiles and walks away.]

Mission Coordinator: Leon, what’s your sitrep?

Leon: I’m going after Victor.

Mission Coordinator: Don’t do anything stupid.

Leon: Me? Never.

[He notices that same concerned passerby, who now needs help herself. He asks a random guy on the street for assistance.]

Man: Whoa! Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hey! What the hell, lady!?

Woman: Help me!

Man: Are you OK?

[She tackles the guy onto the pavement.]

Man: What are you doing!?

[She kisses him, then transforms and bites off his nose. Not yet fully transformed, she is still somewhat aware of herself.]

Zombie: How...am I...?

[Leon shoots her in the head and fells her with an epic spinning kick. Afterwards, he approaches and chops off her head with an axe.]

Leon: Get Wrenwood locked down.

Mission Coordinator: What? Is it something do with Victor?

Leon: Yeah, he’s the one to thank for all the excitement.

[More zombies appear, which Leon also dispatches without issue. Panic erupts on the street.]

Man: Someone help me!

[Leon shoots an attacking zombie in the head.]

Man: Thank you... Thank you!

Leon: Get out of here, now!

Mission Coordinator: Leon, have you located Victor?

Leon: No, I lost him. Back to square one.

Mission Coordinator: Not necessarily. Victor purchased a building after Umbrella went under. The Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center. I’ll send you the adress.

Mission Coordinator: Leon...

[Leon removes his left glove, revealing black veins like a spider’s web underneath. He clenches his hand into a fist, as if gathering his strength.]

Mission Coordinator: We’re running out of time.

[He shakes his head, agreeing with the coordinator. We switch to Grace, who is somewhere in the darkness.]

Grace: No... No!

[She lies on a bed, her hair pulled up, her face sweaty. A vessel is connected to her vein, draining her blood.]

Grace: The hell?

[Her hands and feet are tied to the bed as if in a psychiatric hospital.]

Grace: Oh shit. What is this? Hey! Help!

[We realize she is suspended upside down.]

Grace: No... No, no, no. You gotta stay calm. You gotta stay cool. Come on. Think. Think, Grace, think.

[She notices the blood container. It is made of glass.]

Grace: Yes.

[She pulls on the tube, toppling the stand holding the container, shattering it. Using a shard, she cuts through her bindings and rips them from her wrists. Due to blood loss, she has little strength, but she uses it all fighting for her life. Finally, she tips her overturned bed and frees her legs, nervously watching the door.]

Grace: What did he do to me? Come on.

[She somehow manages to stand up and look around.]

[Progress Notes]
22:03 - Began blood extraction
22:05 - Checked pulse, no abnormalities
22:11 - Administered Dexifil
22:18 - Condition stable, ready for further examination

[She leaves the room.]

Grace: Where the hell am I?

[Grace begins a perilous journey in the darkness. Initially, she manages to find an empty glass bottle, which can be used to distract enemies. She finds an exit fairly quickly, but it is blocked by a metal grate, and the button that opens it doesn’t work. From a distance, the voice of a nurse talking on the phone can be heard.]

Grace: Dead.

[Grace finds a lighter and a key, then enters a children’s room, where she finds a rather creepy children’s book.]

[Harriett Jones - SHADOW GHOST]
Have you seen the Shadow Ghost hiding in the dark?
Have you seen the Shadow Ghost staying from the light?
Have you seen the Shadow Ghost?
Because she’s been watching you.
{in blood} STAY IN THE LIGHT!

[Note on Cardboard Box]
To Staff,
I have moved some items out of the closet.
The screwdriver is now in the toolbox in the nurses’ station.
The sewing kit [text is blurred and illegible]

[Upon opening another door, a mangled body falls onto Grace. Grace checks for a pulse.]

Grace: He’s dead. Infected.

[At that moment, a huge monstrous hand reaches for the corpse and takes it away. The hand belongs to a giant zombie which, after taking a big bite from the corpse, sniffs at Grace, who is afraid even to breathe. Seizing the moment, Grace flees from the three-meter-tall monster, almost on all fours.]

Grace: Shit! Wh-What the fuck!?

[Quite quickly, Grace finds herself in a position where she has nowhere left to run.]

Grace: Don’t come any closer!

[Suddenly, a certain system for controlling the monster, built into the walls next to a door, activates, shooting steam and burning the creature’s face. It roars and crawls away to the floor above through a hole in the ceiling.]

Grace: What the hell was that thing!?

[She returns to the room where she encountered the monster to search it for useful items. There she finds a locker stuffed with the remains of corpses.]

Grace: Oh... Oh my god.

[She finds a syringe with a healing medicine.]

Grace: This looks important...maybe.

[She tries to act as quietly and carefully as possible, not attracting the monster’s attention, but when she moves a cart, a metal container falls off it.]

Grace: Damn it!

[The monster is already close, somewhere outside the window.]

Grace: Not this way. Not this way. Not this way.

[She finds green herb.]

Grace: It can’t hurt to pick some, I guess.

[She finds a screwdriver.]

Grace: Yes!

[Now she must quietly leave the room in pitch darkness without attracting the monster’s attention. However, the monster detects her anyway, and Grace has to move her feet as fast as possible. She finds a place where a fuse is housed, unscrews the screw with the screwdriver, and removes it. But the monster is lurking. While Grace was unscrewing the bolt, it was creeping down from the ceiling.]

Grace: Oh my god.

[She runs at full speed towards the closed iron grate from where she heard the nurse’s voice.]

Grace: Come on, come on, come on!

[She quickly inserts the fuse and, without waiting for the grate to fully rise, crawls under it. But the monster is already near, and despite the steam in its face, it grabs Grace’s leg and drags her away. Grace fights with all her might, but she cannot break free, and the creature drags the girl into the darkness...]

RHODES HILL

Prologue. Leon.

[Leon pulls up to the sanatorium. It is a massive, richly decorated building with columns, carved ornaments on the walls, and massive mahogany doors. He gets out of the car and approaches the main entrance, noticing an external surveillance camera. Entering, Leon approaches the reception desk, which is flanked on both sides by a staircase. A nurse appears right behind him.]

Nurse: Mr. Kennedy, welcome. Dr. Gideon has been expecting you.

Leon: Funny. I don’t remember getting an invitation.

Nurse: Well, he’s waiting for you.

Leon: Can’t have that, can we?

Nurse: Follow me, please

Leon: Lead the way.

[He follows the nurse through the sanatorium corridors. Rain pours outside, and thunderclaps are heard.]

Leon: So how long have you worked for, uh...Dr. Gideon?

Nurse: Not long. I just recently joined the team. We care for quite a few long-term patients here. All undergoing experimental therapies developed by Dr. Gideon.

Leon: Experimental therapies?

Nurse: Yes, it’s all very cutting edge. The facility keeps a low profile due to the sensitive nature of the research.

Leon: Oh, I bet it does.

[The nurse leads Leon to Victor’s office.]

Nurse: Please, wait here.

[She leaves, closing and locking the door. Leon enters the office, examining it, while Victor himself watches him through a camera in the eye of a skeleton. Leon sees a photo of Victor (who looked relatively normal at the time of the picture) and other doctors. After a few minutes, a message comes over the radio.]

Announcement: Code Six! Code Six! All staff, initiate emergency protocols!

[A nurse runs into the office.]

Nurse: Mr. Kennedy, we need to leave immediately!

Leon: What’s going on?

Nurse: I don’t know what’s happening. Some kind of mass hysteria. The hospital is on lockdown.

[A doctor enters the room, clearly infected, but the nurse doesn’t notice.]

Nurse: Doctor?

Doctor: Cut…out…

[He starts a chainsaw hidden under his coat and rams the blade into the nurse. She dies horribly in a fountain of blood. Zombie-Doctor turns his attention to Leon, but Leon, being a trained fighter, quickly increases the distance by kicking a chair and then dodging the chainsaw.]

Leon: I think I want a second opinion.

[He blocks the chainsaw with his axe and kills the zombie with a shot from his powerful pistol. The chainsaw continues spinning on the floor. He picks it up.]

Leon: Nice.

[He mows down approaching zombies with the chainsaw, creating a veritable bloodbath. He impales some, splattering everything around with blood.]

Leon: Well, that went well.

[He saws through the thick bolt of a door lock with the chainsaw, breaking it in the process. Afterwards, he contacts the coordinator.]

Leon: That bastard did it again. How are things on your end?

Mission Coordinator: I just hacked into the center’s network.

Leon: Good, good... Can you find me the floor plan?

Mission Coordinator: I’ll see what I can do.

Leon: Well, in the meantime, I’ll try to track him down.

Mission Coordinator: Keep me posted.

Leon: Will do.

[And then Leon approaches the metal grate... just at the moment Grace crawls out from there!]

Grace: Come on, come on, come on!

[We see the scene of Grace being dragged into the darkness again, but now it has a continuation—Leon shoots the horrific creature right in the head.]

Leon: Hey! Over here!

[Grace runs towards Leon as he shoots the creature, now standing up, in the head again... and several more times, turning its head into a bowl of bloody mush with a dangling eye. Grace, holding her head in her hands, tries to calm down.]

Grace: Breathe... Breathe...

Leon: You OK?

Grace: Y-Yeah. Th-Thanks...

Leon: Leon Kennedy, D.S.O.

Grace: DSO? I’m Grace, um… Ashcroft. Uh, FBI.

Leon: FBI? What are you doing here?

Grace: Someone kidnapped me.

Leon: Victor Gideon?

Grace: I- don’t know.

Leon: Well, we should leave.

[Someone presses a button, and the grate slams shut, separating the heroes—Grace is now closer to the exit, and Leon remains inside. Not only the doors but also the windows are blocked. Complete lockdown.]

Leon: What does Victor want with you?

Grace: What? I, um, I—

Leon: Grace.

Grace: Wh-What do you mean?

Leon: He grabbed you for a reason.

Grace: Wait! Y-You’re DSO. The counter-bioterrorism agency, right?

[Leon hands her a gun. And not just any gun, but his own massive cannon.]

Leon: Take this.

Grace: You’re sure?

Leon: You might need it.

[Grace takes the pistol, holding it with both hands.]

Leon: Now go. Get outta here.

[The door between them closes, plunging the corridor into complete darkness. Leon pulls out a flashlight and looks around, realizing that just a few meters away from him stood Victor, now wearing a hooded robe resembling snakeskin.]

Victor: She won’t get away, you know.

Leon: Dr. Gideon.

Victor: So nice to finally meet you, Leon. Why don’t we have a little talk?

[Leon attacks him hand-to-hand, but Victor grabs him by the throat with lightning-fast reflexes.]

Victor: Too slow.

[He examines Leon with his helmet.]

Victor: I see you’re exhibiting symptoms, too. Umbrella’s curse.

[Despite his resistance, Leon loses consciousness.]

GRACE ASHCROFT October 8, 11:42 p.m.

Grace: I’ll be fine. I hope.

[Naturally, Grace’s first attempt is to get out through the main entrance, but she needs to collect three rhombus-shaped keys, symbolizing the words Moon, Sun, and Star.]

Grace: This looks like it leads outside.

[Soon she finds her first safe room, with a typewriter and an item storage box.]

[Care Center Pamphlet]
Transforming lives through medicine.
Chairman: Mitchell Bennett
Lead Researcher: Anthony Richardson
Security Manager: Luke Clark
"Dignity of the moon, trust of the sun, serenity of the stars. We are partners."

[Whiteboard Scrawl]
Medication Room Unauthorized personnel are not permitted past this point.
In the case of irregularities, contact the lead researcher immediately.
In emergencies—

[Grace enters the next room, above which a red lamp glows. Turning on the light, she notices a corpse in the corner... but it doesn’t scare her as much as before. In the far part of the room, she sees a glass prison holding a little girl.]

Grace: Oh, god...

[The girl’s hair is the same silver as Grace’s. She is reading a book and is slightly surprised by the stranger’s arrival. The corpse in the room doesn’t seem to bother her at all. This is because the book is written in Braille.]

Grace: What on earth—?

[The girl lifts her nearly completely white eyes from the book.]

Girl: Who’s there?

[She is a little frightened.]

Girl: Is someone there?

[She gets up from the bed and falls to the floor.]

Grace: I’m sorry if I, um, surprised you.

[She examines the girl.]

Grace: Cataracts... You can’t see, can you?

Girl: Who are you?

[Grace scans the room, noticing another glass prison.]

Grace: Was there someone in the other cell?

[She turns to the girl.]

Grace: Why are you in there?

Girl: Everyone’s gone.

[Suddenly, the corpse comes to—not as a zombie, just a person who lost consciousness from their wounds.]

Injured Doctor: Stay away from her!

[The doctor is very rude and serious.]

Grace: Are you all right!?

Injured Doctor: Get away! Get away...

Grace: No, no! Hold on! No! No, no!

[The doctor dies. Grace picks up his card from the floor.]

Grace: I’m sorry.

[Having obtained the key to the West Wing, Grace heads there. Making her way through the corridors, she enters a kitchen, where she finds a monstrous zombie chef.]

Chef: Next is...

[He is engrossed in chopping meat.]

Chef: Neexxt is... Wrong...wrong...wroong.

[She distracts him with a cart of soup—the chef, for some reason, plunges his hand into it.]

Chef: Next is...

[Grace manages to slip behind the chef’s back and exit into the adjacent corridor.]

Zombie: L...L...Light’s...o-on.

[This zombie seems preoccupied with turning off the lights in the corridor. Apparently, that was his duty in life, and now it’s a residual brain reaction.]

Zombie: T-Too b-bright.

[He tries to attack Grace with a flashlight, but she dodges.]

Zombie: Too briiight!

[Grace emerges into a dining hall. A long table in the center of the room is piled with food and corpses. And sitting on this table, on all fours, is a zombie, devouring it all. The tablecloth is stained with blood, saliva, and juices. Grace finally finds a suitable pistol for herself, a B934, and hastily leaves the horrific room.]

Grace: No bullets.

[She manages to find a few bullets, which she promptly unloads into a zombie that attacks her, then finishes it off with a knife made from half of a pair of scissors. By a fortunate twist of circumstances, someone had already tried to kill this zombie with a knife, so she extracts this useful item from its body. She finds a few more bullets, and now she has the means to defend herself. She approaches a door leading to some kind of basement, which is secured with a valve lock, but when she tries to turn the large red valve, it simply falls off its mounting, becoming useless.]

Grace: Damn it.

[She ascends to the upper floors, where she spots a zombie singer in the distance.]

[Folded Note]
I have to get the hell out of here, but the whole building is locked down. I’ll need to ask the chairman to get his quartz for me.
I just heard another scream. My colleagues are killing each other. What the fuck is going on?

[When Grace kills another zombie, something interesting happens—part of the human consciousness remains, and the zombie, though unintelligibly, utters the following:]

Zombie: I’m sorry.

Grace: I hate this place. What if I can’t get out?

[Returning to the safe room and resting a bit, Grace continues her search for an exit.]

[Copy of an Email to a Manager]
Subject: Personnel Change
From: Mitchell Bennett
The new hire showed promise at the dinner meeting last month. Have his clearance bumped up a level and get him set up to work on the project.
Send the current researcher for processing while you’re at it.

[Note to the Chairman]
I suspect that we’ll receive a visit from the DSO shortly.
I want you to enact Code Six at 23:30. I’ve achieved my goal and no longer have any need for this place.
V

[Grace finds a pencil and reveals the last entry in the diary, which turns out to be an important clue for a safe.]

[Chairman’s Note]
Moon
Sun
Star
Moon

[Opening the safe, Grace obtains the Moon Quartz! She immediately wants to place it in its designated spot to save inventory space.]

Grace: A perfect fit. Guess I need two more.

[She uses the found ruby to access the gaming hall.]

Grace: Weird. How do people normally get in here?

[She finds the East Wing Keycard after searching a hand... just a severed hand, lying under a bed.]

Grace: Ugh, sorry about this.

[And then the Zombie Chef comes for her! Grace needs to run. Along the way, she even manages to kill the Zombie Singer. And on the bar counter lies another gun—an S&S M232.]

Grace: Wait, this is mine.

[She exits into the central corridor and opens the East Wing. Afterwards, she returns again to the blind girl...]

Grace: Hey...

Grace: A-Are you all right?

Girl: You’re the lady from before.

Grace: ...Yeah. This is, um... You’re, um... Did anyone hurt you?

Girl: Because I can’t see?

Grace: Oh, no. No. That’s...um...th-that’s not what I meant. Uh...

Girl: It’s not my fault. The doctors gave us both medicine. It made our eyes go bad.

Grace: So… So there was someone in there? There’s another bed in this, uh...

Girl: My friend, Marie. One day she just... disappeared.

Grace: Oh... I’m sorry.

Girl: When it happened, I was happy it wasn’t me. Is that bad?

Grace: I’m just gonna... keep looking around.

[She goes to the East Wing and finds the medical/surgical department. There, she manages to find a syringe that kills infected cells. She tests it on a nearby zombie doctor, and its head simply explodes.]

Grace: That’s too effective.

[She finds that same zombie who stood by the light switch...]

Zombie: Liight...on...

[...and shoots it in the head. A bit further, in a laboratory, Grace finds a rather interesting device that allows her to collect blood from the infected, enabling its study and processing into various useful items.]

Grace: This might be useful.

[She immediately analyzes the blood sample she has.]

[Blood Compound Synthesis]
The custom blood collector that Dr. Richardson ordered has finally arrived.
To be honest, I was skeptical at first, but I’m genuinely impressed by its effectiveness.
Combining infected blood with our experimental substances has been such a challenge for us, but this device makes it so easy!
This is to improve the efficiency of our blood research and speed up analysis for further mutation patterns.

[Lead Researcher’s Message]
For my secretary,
I’ve misplaced the key for the puzzle box padlock. None of the other executives must find out.
I need you to locate it discreetly before next week’s meeting. If you can’t find it, get the bottle from the conference room and melt the lock off.

[Grace continues to explore the East Wing and finds a key-bracelet on a researcher’s corpse. Suddenly, something unimaginable happens—a huge, fat zombie, vaguely resembling a giant child, rolls into the room.]

Chunk: Don...fuck...with me.

[It smashes through load-bearing columns in the corridor and lumbers after Grace. Outrunning it proves fairly easy—the creature is clumsy and cannot keep up with slim, young Grace.]

[Victor’s Journal Entry]
November 30, 2004
My master’s research has come to fruition.
And that child. She must be the final piece of the puzzle.
I need to get my hands on the child’s data. I’m sure this will bring me closer to his vision.
December 8, 2004
The organization was able to get me the child’s medical records.
It was lacking in certain areas, but did have her genetic information. I can use this.

[Grace decides to eliminate the threat posed by the fatso, Chunk, and injects him with the infected cell destroyer while he moves through the corridors, but nothing happens.]

Grace: Shit... Was that not enough?

Chunk: Stop...lauugliing!

[Grace has to run through the corridors collecting blood for a new batch of the destroyer. She encounters a Zombie Janitor who is distressed by blood stains on the floor.]

Zombie Cleaner: Who made a mess?

[She receives a dose of lead medicine from Grace, after which our heroine descends into the basement. An excavator comes towards her, crashing through a wall.]

Grace: What the fuck!?

[She shoots the driver, and the excavator stops, blocking half the corridor.]

Grace: Give me a fucking break!

[She crawls under the excavator.]

Grace: Ah, fuck.

[Having gathered everything useful, Grace continues to explore the wing.]

[Disposal Team Report Assignment]
Evidence Erasure Report
Date: Oct. 20, 2018, 6:42 a.m.
A retrieval mission was conducted shortly after 1:30 a.m. at the Wrenwood Hotel.
We were dispatched soon after to dispose of any evidence.
All witnesses at the hotel had already been taken care of.
The body of the assassin that was sent was also destroyed. We had a stroke of luck with that fire. As they say, the best place to hide a leaf is in a forest.
This incident will likely be ruled an act of arson and homicide by some nutcase. Any evidence linking us to the scene is gone.

[Background Check]
Subject: Grace Ashcroft
Period of Observation: September 9-16, 2026
Detective: M. D. Birdie, RGT Detective Agency
Summary of Investigation
- Employed by the FBI at the Midwest Field Office.
- Lives alone, close to her office.
- Goes home late, often after midnight.
- Spends her free time at home.
- No confirmed contact with others.
Findings
It’s difficult to get close as the target rarely leaves the FBI Midwest Field Office area. If you want to make contact without raising suspicion, it would be best to do so when she’s away from home.
A more detailed report and several photographs will be sent at a later date.

[Bar & Lounge Safe Code]
You really saved my butt the other day. As thanks, you can take whatever you want from the safe.
The code is ←10 →80 ←30

[She takes antique coins from the safe, using them to purchase several upgrades. Then she encounters a strange zombie...]

Grace: Oh god, what?

[Safe Replacements]
To all staff,
We will be updating the following safes in the facility:
- East wing 1F: Waiting Room
- West wing 2F: Bar & Lounge
- East wing 1F: [blurred and illegible]
The remaining safe will be replaced at a later date.

[Examination Room Safe Code]
As announced in the letter regarding safe replacements, all contents of this safe must be removed by 11:30 p.m.
The code is →30 ←10 →50
Any uncollected contents will be disposed of by management.

[Grace returns to the surgical wing of the sanatorium in search of the second key to the main entrance.]

Zombie: G-Good...i-idea... Give...psychostimuuu... Change...o-optic nerve. Five mili...

[Grace kills a whole brigade of doctors turned into zombies, then finds a bottle of concentrated acid in a back room.]

Grace: This’ll do!

[Patient Medical Records]
Subject: Martin L. Case
Symptoms: Auditory sensitivity
Following an overdose of Zipreval, the subject started to have auditory hallucinations and became aggressive and difficult to control. The subject exhibits erratic behavior when exposed to loud noises.
Subject: Eileen Zimmerman
Symptoms: Persistent vocalization and wandering
The surgical removal of some cranial nerves resulted in a type of histrionic personality disorder that can only be described as "main character syndrome." The patient continues to wander around the care center singing.
Subject: Selena Corey
Symptoms: Persistent vocalization and wandering
Her symptoms are more pronounced than Zimmerson’s. She often puts on performances in the west wing’s bar and lounge, as if she’s competing with her rival.

[On her way, Grace examines an office where she encounters... Victor. She immediately aims her gun at him.]

Victor: Ah, Miss Ashcroft, Come in. I won’t harm you. I was just looking for Dr. Richardson.

[Grace continues to stammer, which tells us she is frightened.]

Grace: Wh-Why did you kidnap me?

Victor: Kidnap you? I liberated you.

Grace: Who are you?

Victor: Oh, forgive me. Dr. Victor Gideon. I run this center. It took forever to find you.

[He steps closer and literally towers over Grace. The gun pointed at him does not bother him in the slightest.]

Victor: You’re not like other people, you know. You’re quite...unique. Through you, Elpis can finally be…set free.

Grace: Wh-Why me?

Victor: Because my master made you who you are.

[A beep comes from the transmitter.]

Victor: Ah, phase two is about to begin.

[We see a certain man lying on a cot in an isolation ward, infected, his face covered with a rag. Blood begins to seep from a wound on his arms, and the man breathes slowly and heavily.]

Victor: Would you like to see what’s hidden under the hood?

[Frightened, Grace flees the office and wedges a chair under the door handle. This does not stop Victor, and he lunges after her. Grace hides behind a bedside table.]

Victor: Grace! Wait! Grace! Grace? Grace! There’s no escaping your destiny!

[He leaves, and Grace carefully emerges from her hiding place.]

Grace: Wh-Wh-What the fuck does he mean, "destiny"!?

[She uses the acid to corrode the lock on a safe and, after entering the correct symbol combination, obtains the Sun Quartz and a leather-bound diary.]

[Spencer’s Research I]
Master Spencer’s Research
Victor Gideon
Mutated T-Virus Strain
Herein documents a theory that uses the T-Virus to control memories and will.
This research shall serve as a guiding light for all of humanity.
In rare instances, repeated mutations of the T-Virus can trigger an abnormal reaction in an infected individual’s body, leading to changes in their blood.
The mutated strains of the T-Virus will likely sweep the world, and total eradication will be impossible.
Those infected by the mutated T-Virus strain firmly retain their pre-infection habits and characteristics.
→ Blood transformation.
Within this lies the key to human evolution.
(The file ends here.)

[Grace runs back to the door and inserts the second symbol, then opens a box located right in the nearby safe room. Inside the box is an artificial lung, which can be used on a corpse in the surgical wing. The corpse revives, and Grace must return it to its dead state, after which she receives a second-level key-bracelet. With it, she goes to a new part of the medical wing.]

[Double Mutation]
There have been a number of cases infected with the mutated T-Virus strain have exhibited rapid tissue regeneration and sudden violent behavior.
Analysis of the enlarged tumor that formed on the heads of these patients revealed a sudden change in red blood patterns consistent with the pattern found in urine tests. This additional mutation is considered a side effect of the mutated T-Virus strain.
We have named those with double mutation symptoms “Blister Heads.”
In rare cases, the tumor was observed to spread from the head across the entire body.
If the abscesses covering these individuals burst, the fluids they expel will induce double mutation in nearby infected.
Hemolytic poison has proven effective at preventing double mutation, otherwise the head must be completely destroyed. Always exercise extreme caution when handling corpses.

[Nurse’s Log]
Sept. 3
As per the doctor’s orders, from today I will take part in monitoring the progress of subject 171. She is emotionless and unsettled. This assignment fills me with unease.
Sept. 10
Subject 171 is blind and requires a lot of assistance. I felt sorry for her and tried to offer some comfort by stroking her hair, but as always received no reaction. Such an unnerving child. I just want to go home and shower.
Sept. 24
For some reason the security manager joined me to day. He asked subject 171 two or three questions about blood, but of course a child wouldn’t know how to respond. What a strange man.

[In the dead doctor’s office, Grace finds a diary containing a clue for the third key.]

Grace: This must be it.

[However, the images on the buttons have long since worn off.]

Grace: I can’t tell which button’s which...

[Examining the buttons, Grace realizes they have hints marked in Braille.]

Grace: Braille...

[She remembers the blind girl again. By the way, on the dead doctor’s table, there is also a photograph of this girl, and next to her is her sister, who looks about the same as the girl herself, but her hair is not silver, but dark.]

These girls... They look just like...

[Grace remembers that the girl is secured behind a third-level lock, and on the doctor’s wrist, there is also a third-level access key.]

Grace: You’re the one that locked her up.

[She hesitates, wanting to remove the bracelet from the corpse.]

Grace: I’m gonna borrow this.

[Having removed the bracelet, she puts it in her pocket and looks at the safe.]

Grace: I bet she can read that.

[She returns to the blind girl. Approaching the door, she still hesitates to unlock it immediately, remembering the warning.]

Grace: Hey... Why did they put you in there?

Girl: I don’t know. I’ve always been here.

Grace: Do you mind if I come in?

Girl: I don’t...mind.

[Grace unlocks the door and enters.]

Grace: I... So, um... Sorry. Ah, I’m with the police.

Girl: ...Police?

Grace: Yes... I’d like you to come with me.

Girl: Why?

Grace: I’m Grace. What’s your name?

Emily: ...Emily.

Grace: Emily. You like reading?

Emily: Yeah.

Grace: Do you think you could read something for me? Please, I—I really need your help.

Emily: ...OK.

Grace: Thank you. I’ll take you there. There are steps. How about I carry you?

[She takes Emily in her arms and runs with her.]

Emily: What do you want me to read?

Grace: Umm… There’s some buttons with, uh, braille on them. Can you read them, um, push in this order? Star, star, moon, sun.

Emily: Um...sure.

Grace: Thanks. Uh...thank you.

[Now Grace must watch over Emily, but while she carries her, her actions are limited.]

Grace: I have to keep it together.

[She manages to reach the doctor’s office in the isolation ward without much trouble.]

Grace: Thank god...

[She puts Emily on the floor and guides her.]

Grace: Here it is. You think you can read it?

Emily: I can try.

Grace: It’s like a giant puzzle box!

[Meanwhile, terrible sounds come from the ward...]

Grace: Stay here, Emily. You handle this. I’ll... handle... that.

[She closes the office door and heads towards the terrible sounds, reloading her gun.]

Zombie: Eva-a…cuate…

[In the ward, there are several zombies, including the one that lay on the cot covered with a rag. This is the zombie with the large mutated head. During the fight, Grace hears Emily’s voice.]

Emily: Grace! I did it!

[Having finished off the zombies, Grace runs to Emily.]

Grace: I’m here. I’m here.

Emily: I found this.

[She hands her the last symbol.]

Grace: Well done, Emily, Thank you.

[But before she can take the symbols from her hands, the wall explodes with a mighty crash, and everything around plunges into blackness. Grace frantically searches for her flashlight... It turns out that the giant monster recently killed by Leon has burst into the room, but it seems the monster’s head has gradually regenerated. The creature grabs the blind Emily and drags her away.]

Grace: Emily!?

Emily: Help me! Help!

Grace: Emily! I thought that thing was dead!

[She gives chase. But to follow the monster, she must descend into the pitch-black darkness of the basement. She hesitates. Fear pins her to the ground.]

Grace: I can’t just leave her...

[She carefully descends into the black hole.]

Grace: Oh, god... OK.

[Summoning her courage, she jumps into the darkness.]

LEON S. KENNEDY October 9, 4:41 a.m.

[We switch to Leon. He is tied to a chair, and a spotlight shines in his face. Victor approaches.]

Victor: Why are you here? Is it for me? Or for her? We can talk.

[Leon simply turns away.]

Victor: Right. Or we can begin your "treatment."

[He picks up a scalpel.]

Leon: The silent treatment, I hope.

Victor: You’re an investigator, right? Well, investigate. What do you wanna know? Is this where I conduct my research?

[He runs his hand through his hair.]

Victor: Yes.

[He pulls back the collar of his shirt, exposing the black veins.]

Victor: Are the answers to your disease here? ...Yes.

Leon: You know, I’do have a question. When was the last time you brushed your teeth?

[Victor examines Leon with his helmet.]

Victor: You... are an ignorant… fool.

[He makes an incision on Leon’s neck, right next to the black veins.]

Victor: Do you believe in human evolution?

[While he speaks, Leon carefully cuts his bindings with a secret knife.]

Victor: While you have devoted your life... to failure.

[Having cut the bindings, Leon kicks Victor against the wall with a powerful blow, then strikes his helmet with his foot. Leon notices a gun lying nearby and lunges for it while Victor is stunned, but Leon himself feels weak. Taking advantage of this, Victor flees. He manages to escape the attic and pulls the ladder up after him, managing to utter one last phrase into the narrowing opening.]

Victor: You’re a dead man walking!

[Leon immediately calls the coordinator.]

Leon: Hey, can you hear me?

Mission Coordinator: Leon? I’ve been trying to reach you.

Leon: Sorry, I was a little tied up. Did you get what I asked for?

Mission Coordinator: The floor plan? Yeah, sending it now.

[Leon injects some kind of substance into his neck and feels relief.]

Leon: I had a talk with Victor.

[He checks the remaining bullets in his gun.]

Leon: He is batshit crazy. Gonna make my way to his office.

[He turns on his flashlight and heads into the adjacent corridor.]

Leon: Glad that FBI agent got away.

Mission Coordinator: FBI?

Leon: Yeah, Grace Ashcroft. Victor kidnapped her.

Mission Coordinator: What? Why?

Leon: I don’t know. But I intend to find out.

[He begins to explore the attic, which is quite spacious.]

[Satiety Suppression Medical Records]
Subject: Thomas K. Jackson
Symptoms: Irregular eating patterns
After a surgical procedure to suppress the satiety center of the brain, the subject experienced an increase in appetite and weight gain. He began to ingest everything he could get his hands on, including infusion pumps and pacemakers.
Subject: Timothy B. Jackson
Symptoms: Irregular eating patterns
Exhibits the same symptoms as his brother, with a particularly strong fixation on human flesh. Must be treated with extreme caution as he becomes violently agitated if not constantly eating.

[Leon finds an MSBG 500 shotgun... and Chunk devouring a corpse.]

Chunk: Moorrre! Mooorrreee!

[Leon brings down the fatso with a few shots and embeds his axe in its head.]

Leon: You felt that one, huh?

Chunk: Food! Food! Food!

Leon: Hope I’m not next.

Chunk: Foood! Foood! All mine! Mine, mine, mine, mine! Food, food, food, food! Food! Mine! Mine! Mine! More, more. Mine! Mine!

[After several minutes of running through tight spaces and fighting, Leon inflicts enough damage that Chunk withers and explodes, splattering entrails everywhere.]

Leon: Sorry, but I’m not on the menu.

[Basement Safe Code]
For the security manager: I put the discussed item in the safe and moved it to a discreet location in the basement, away from wandering eyes.
The code is →60 ←40 ←80

[Leon finds a way to descend to the floor below and get into the main sanatorium building.]

[Dishwasher’s Note]
Hey asshat!
Heard you lost the pantry key again. Mr. Bigshot Chef made me crawl around the filthy floors to find it.
I finally found it in a puddle of grease, along with a dead rat the size of a dog, and gave it back to the chef.
You fucking owe me!

Leon: This place is infested. His office should be upstairs.

[He encounters the Zombie Chef.]

Leon: What the fuck are you cutting with that thing? Elephants?

[He finds Victor’s office. Inside lies a heap of corpses on the couch by the coffee table and on the floor. Everything is splattered with blood.]

Leon: What a fuckin’ shame.

[He is attacked by a big-headed zombie.]

Leon: One thing after another…

[When he activates a secret lever, several zombies burst into the room.]

Leon: (sighs) Every single time.

[He finds a hidden elevator and descends in it.]

Leon: Pretty sure I found Victor’s private office.

Mission Coordinator: Nice work. Lock it up.

Leon: Yes, ma’am.

[We switch to the female coordinator herself, sitting at a computer.]

Mission Coordinator: Bingo. I have the IP address. Just give me a minute...and... I’m in.

Leon: OK, hit me.

[The coordinator reads a document on the screen, and we are shown who has been helping Leon all this time. And yes, we know her.]

"T-Virus within the body mutates..."

Leon: Sherry, you’re killing me.

Sherry: I found some information about our illness. Our symptoms confirm a T-Virus infection.

Leon: Well, fuck. Well, hey, At least we’re in it together, right? Alright, what’ve we got?

[She scrolls through documents and comes across one that is heavily redacted. Only a few words are visible.]

Leon: Elpis?

[A photo of Grace Ashcroft appears.]

Leon: Grace? What’s she got to do with this?

GRACE ASHCROFT October 9, 3:32 a.m.

[We switch to Grace, who has landed rather ungracefully on the ground and is frantically searching for the flashlight that fell out during her fall. Having looked around and found no enemies, she exhales.]

Grace: Hang on, Emily. I’m coming.

[She walks through tunnels located at the very bottom of the building. Judging by the dangling chains, someone was held here.]

[Staff Member’s Last Words]
Everyone’s dead.
The plan went to shit.
I’m the only one left in this place. I tried to escape, but what’s the point.
I can still see my colleagues being eaten alive. Like an endless loop playing over and over like my head. Let it stop.
Please.

[Soon, Grace emerges into concrete corridors and from there into a security room where monitor screens are located. Seeing Emily sitting in a cell on the monitor, Grace sighs.]

Grace: Is that Emily?

[Operation to Eliminate "The Girl"]
To all employees,
The Girl is currently occupying the basement. We plan to corner her by taking advantage of the subject’s intolerance to light and will place high-intensity ultraviolet lamps throughout the area.
Once this is complete, we will begin the operation to eliminate the subject.
Prepare your weapons and be on standby.

[Grace continues to explore the dark concrete corridors, only weakly lit by red lamps. She finds cells where zombies are kept, or perhaps where people were kept who simply turned into zombies. Finally, she finds the cell holding Emily, but from inside come some terrible sounds. Carefully approaching and peering in, Grace notices that the tall monster is inside the cell. The monster quickly crawls away through a ventilation shaft in the ceiling. Without wasting a moment, Grace runs to the cell door. Emily seems to be asleep.]

Grace: Emily!

[Grace gently rattles the cell door to get Emily’s attention without attracting the monster’s. Emily comes to.]

Grace: Oh, thank goodness. Emily!

[However, the girl just turns over on her other side and continues sleeping. Grace examines the cell and sees a huge number of severed doll heads, which, apparently, the monster brought.]

Grace: It collects things.

[Grace examines the cell itself and sees a green light above it, indicating the cell has an electronic lock. Now she needs to find the panel that opens it.]

[Unlocking the Cells]
You gotta insert the three joint plugs and pull the left lever if you’re crazy enough to open the cells.
The joint plugs are currently being used to power other areas.
I’ve marked their locations on the map. Removing them will cut the electricity, so you better be extra sure before you start messing around with them.

Grace: You can do this.

[Grace begins to search every room and every corner for fuses. Besides zombies, she is also opposed by the darkness and the rather complex and confusing navigation through the dirty basement.]

[Technician’s Note]
Taking the toolbox to the boiler room for repairs.
The quality of blood the laboratory receives has gone downhill. We’ve been notified from above to take immediate action.
Looks like some problem during the separation process is to blame. Going to do some work on it.

Zombie: Baaassstards...

[Security Guard’s Report]
The 12 subjects we were provided with were confirmed and reduced to blood at the processing area.
We’ll be able to increase the turnover rate even more thanks to the increased stock from our supply chain.
We have already started processing today’s additions.

Grace: That’s two.

[Grace finds a room with corpses wrapped in black plastic suspended from a conveyor on the ceiling. She has to move the conveyor to proceed further. Some of the zombies are still capable of movement.]

Grace: Oh my god, those are... Oh god, I really don’t wanna go in there.

Zombie: Why’s... happening?

Grace: Stay calm, Grace...

[She has to descend into a pool where zombies were drowned. The liquid, half consisting of blood and other bodily fluids, she had previously drained...]

Grace: Oh fuck…

[The pool turns out not to be a pool at all, but a corpse disposal machine.]

Grace: Wait, what?

Announcement: Fluid drainage complete. Processing will now begin.

Grace: Processing!? Shit, no. No, no!

[In the far part of the pool, massive blades activate, and the pool floor moves like a conveyor belt towards these blades. Some of the zombies are capable of movement, and Grace has to defend herself while pondering what to do next.]

Announcement: Processing is almost complete. Processing complete.

Grace: It stopped… It finally stopped. Thank god.

[She retrieves a fuse located at the other end of the pool.]

Grace: The last one! Now to free Emily and get out of this place.

[She has to slide down a pipe filled with rotting water, blood, and bodily fluids, and finally plunge into a vat of such water.]

Grace: Ugh, it got in my mouth...

[She quickly runs to the panel and activates it using the three fuses. Lights come on, and all the cells open. Grace runs to Emily.]

Grace: Hey, hey!

[Emily starts to struggle, not understanding who is in front of her.]

Grace: It’s me! It’s me. It’s Grace, it’s Grace! Calm down.

[She hugs Emily.]

Emily: Grace?

Grace: Yeah. We gotta get out of here.

[She takes Emily in her arms and runs towards the opened elevator.]

Grace: Hold on tight!

Emily: I’m scared... Why’s it so loud?

[Zombies that have been freed from their cells are everywhere.]

Grace: U-Um... It’s going to be OK. J-Just don’t let go. Come on! Come on!

[She rushes into the elevator.]

Grace: Just putting you down.

[She tries to move the pallet of bags blocking the door. At that moment, the giant monster appears.]

Grace: Ahh, stay away!

[At the last second, she presses the button, and the elevator slowly ascends.]

Grace: Come on! Go faster!

Emily: Grace?

Grace: Are you hurt?

Emily: No… I’m OK.

Grace: That’s good. Good, Emily.

[She exhales—the danger has passed. At that moment, something strikes the elevator.]

Emily: What’s going on?

[It’s the giant creature—it’s crawling on the outside. The elevator stops, and Grace tries to pry the doors open to get out on the floor where the elevator has halted. She succeeds. First, she lifts Emily up.]

Grace: Hurry! Go!

[She helps her out of the elevator, but as she climbs out herself, the creature grabs her leg and tries to pull her back into the elevator. At this moment, the elevator cable begins to snap under the weight.]

Grace: Oh shit...

[Grace realizes that if she ends up in the elevator, she’ll have no chance of survival, and braces herself as best she can. The creature speaks something articulate for the first time.]

The Girl: Let’s...plaaay.

[And then the elevator falls! Grace screams—whether from pain or fear, we don’t know yet. The camera slowly pans down to her feet, and we hold our breath, waiting for her leg to be severed by the elevator... but the elevator only cuts off the creature’s arm. Grace collapses onto the tiled floor with relief. Emily crawls over to her.]

Emily: Grace? Grace, are you OK?

Grace: Yeah. How about you? You OK?

Emily: Here, I...I kept this safe for you.

[She holds out the quartz cube with the star symbol on it.]

Grace: Thank you.

[Emily hugs her. A little taken aback, Grace decides to hug Emily back.]

Grace: OK.

[She stands up heavily and takes Emily in her arms.]

Grace: Let’s go.

[She walks towards the main entrance (located nearby) to finally leave this cursed place.]

Grace: Hey, Emily, um... Do you wanna leave with me? It’s not safe here.

Emily: Um... OK.

Grace: Good. That’s good.

[She inserts the last quartz cube into the door and steps outside.]

Grace: Finally...we made it. We did it... Emily? Are you all right? Emily?

Emily: ...I dunno.

Grace: Well, let’s just, uh... We need to keep moving, OK? Emily?

Emily: OK.

[She has become somewhat lethargic, as if drained of strength. Grace walks towards the helipad, where a helicopter is standing, next to which is a pilot with an injured leg.]

Pilot: Hey! Stay right there.

Grace: It’s OK, w-we’re not infected...

Pilot: So you’re normal?

Grace: I, uh... I think so.

Pilot: Thank fuck. Those...things still running around?

Grace: Wh-Who are you?

Pilot: You don’t need to worry about me.

Emily: I’m tired.

Grace: I know.

Pilot: That your kid?

[He steps closer.]

Grace: Uh, what’s—!

Pilot: Uh, this? Old war wound.

[He slaps his leg.]

Pilot: I can’t run away even if I wanted to.

Grace: Can you fly this?

Pilot: Sure can. My bastard boss took the key. You know... I could fly us all out of here… if you go get it for me. It’s in there. I’d go myself, but I… I can’t outrun those things. Not with this leg.

Grace: Are you lying to me?

Pilot: What? Have you seen the same shit I’ve seen!? Look, lady, we’re out of options here. How much longer do you think any of us can survive?

Emily: Can I go back to my room now?

Grace: It’s not safe.

Pilot: Hey... We can help each other. I’ll protect her... if you get the key. I’ll keep her safe. I promise.

Grace: It’s a deal. Come on. I got you.

[She puts Emily in the helicopter.]

Grace: Ready...?

[She seats Emily, who immediately lies down to sleep.]

Grace: No, no, no. Come on. Gotta strap you in.

[She seats Emily and fastens her seatbelt.]

Grace: Oh...uh... I’m Grace, by the way. This is Emily.

Harry: Harry.

Grace: Thank you, Harry.

Harry: No problem.

Grace: (to Emily) I’ll be right back.

[Grace takes out her gun and heads into a nearby building. Inside, it looks like an ordinary guest house.]

[Visitor Record]
Date: Sept. 14, 2026
Time In: 5:10 p.m.
Time Out: 6:35 p.m.
Name: Z
Purpose: Project review with Victor Gideon
Notes: Patient status, preliminary research findings

[She enters a meeting room. Besides the wines and expensive furniture, a collection of medical bone saws is also striking.]

Grace: Please... just let it be in here.

[Note Regarding Research Results]
Your presentation was quite impressive. While we are pleased to hear that the experiment has progressed to phase four, it is far from the results we expect.
It has been more than twenty years since the establishment of this care center. We require clear results.
As an added precaution, we have requested the blockade to be extended to 2040. It is imperative we obtain Elpis before that deadline.

[Grace dismantles a wine bottle, finds a secret key, and uses it on a panel in the center. The entire room begins to descend, as if it were an elevator.]

Grace: Wh-What!?

[She descends into a secret medical research laboratory.]

[Spencer’s Research II]
Memory Transfer
Ozwell E. Spencer
Humanity suffers when the drive and experience of our most exceptional leaders is lost. The ultimate way to preserve such greatness is to transfer those memories to a new vessel.
Just as fruit flies have the potential to pass on certain memories to their offspring through their genes, so too can the memories of a human donor be passed on to a recipient.
The question now face is how to harness this incredible potential.
The answer lies in the medium of memory—blood. Cells within the blood contain multitudes of information, including factors tied to memory.
Thus, since the T-Virus grants us control over factors within the blood, it can be hypothesized that harnessing those same elements will allow us to transfer memories from superior individuals.
However, for such a procedure to succeed, the host must be able to withstand the toxicity of the mutated T-Virus strain while preserving their own intelligence. Sourcing viable subjects will be the key to future research and testing.

[She enters a spacious room with many capsules filled with red liquid. Some of them contain human beings.]

Grace: What the hell?

[Subject 170 Record]
Extracted a 2.3-milliliter sample from the 524.3 liters of blood collected from 115 infected.
Administered to Marie.
Henceforth registered as subject 170.
Subject 170 exhibited increased physical resilience but failed to fulfill the goal of the experiment. The subject showed signs of mental instability before escaping.
Confirmed for immediate disposal.

[She finds the helicopter key on a desk in an office by the computers and enters a nearby room, where she accidentally stumbles upon Victor. He doesn’t notice her, and she hides behind a capsule.]

Victor: Yes, Zeno, that’s correct. All tests have come back positive. I can confirm that she is indeed... the one that we’ve been searching for. If all goes as planned, Elpis will soon be in our hands. Of course. But first, I must initiate the protocol. I’ve done it.

[He hangs up the phone and takes a briefcase from the table.]

Victor: I’ve done it. I’ve done it!

[He laughs triumphantly and quickly leaves the office. The wail of a siren sounds.]

Grace: Oh no.

Announcement: The self-destruct protocol has been initiated. All staff, please evacuate. I repeat, the self-destruct protocol has been initiated.

[Equipment begins to break down; tubes rip from their sockets, flooding everything with red liquid. Everything sparks and shakes.]

Grace: Oh, shit.

Announcement: All staff, please evacuate. The self-destruct protocol has been initiated. All staff, please evacuate. Unlocking disposal tanks.

[Grace runs to the "elevator" she came down on but finds only a huge hole.]

Grace: Where’s the room!? What the hell!?

[She needs to find another exit quickly—she arms herself with something like a fire extinguisher that makes zombies explode when used and charges ahead.]

Grace: Please work! Shit, OK. Shit, shit, shit!

[A massive tanker explodes, and Grace is nearly swept away by a wave of red sludge.]

Grace: Fuck! Oh my god...

[She runs with all her might through the flooding corridors.]

Grace: Help! Help!

[She finds a staircase, climbs up it to the surface, and emerges outside.]

Grace: Why does this shit keep happening!? I made it! OK...I’m coming, Emily.

[She runs towards the helicopter, which is already being besieged by zombies. Harry is preparing for takeoff.]

Harry: You get it!?

Grace: Yeah!

Harry: Good.

Grace: Oh my god.

[She runs quickly and boards the helicopter. Harry buckles up and sees zombies breaking through a fence.]

Harry: What the fuck did you do?

Emily: Grace? Grace, what’s happening?

[Grace moves to the rear of the helicopter and sits down next to Emily.]

Grace: It’s OK, Emily. I’m here. Emily? It’s gonna get a little bumpy. I’m right next to you.

Harry: No, lady. I’m gonna need you up front.

Emily: It’s OK, I’m all right.

Grace: OK.

[The helicopter rotor slowly spins up...]

Harry: Come on, come on, come on.

Grace: Oh, there are so many of them!

Harry: Strap in!

[Zombies swarm the helicopter. One tries to smash the windshield with its head.]

Grace: Come on!

Harry: What’s it look like I’m doing!?

Grace: Hurry! Hurry!

Harry: No shit! Hold tight, I’m taking off!

[The helicopter lifts off heavily with the weight of zombies clinging to it, tilts to the right, and shakes off several zombies, leaving a bloody trail on the asphalt. However, zombies still remain on the helicopter, and one breaks through to Harry.]

Harry: Get off me!

[Grace grabs the control stick while Harry fights off the zombie.]

Harry: Get the fuck off me! You bastard! Get the fuck—

[Despite Grace’s efforts, they crash into the roof of a church and land in a cemetery, a fitting place given how dangerous their landing was. Grace sighs with relief, turns to Harry... and he is impaled by a branch. Grace screams.]

Grace: Emily, are you OK!? Emily...

[It seems the girl is also injured—there’s blood on her shirt, and she’s breathing heavily.]

LEON S. KENNEDY October 9, 6:03 a.m.

[We return to Leon, still standing in Victor’s secret office.]

Leon: Elpis? Grace? What’s she got to do with this?

[He looks out the window and sees the helicopter crash! He scans the room and notices a bolt-action sniper rifle standing by the table.]

Leon: Hello, gorgeous.

[He smashes the window with the stock and sees through the sniper scope Grace climbing out of the wreckage. Grace reaches Emily, opening the dented helicopter door with her bare hands.]

Grace: Come on, Emily.

[She unbuckles and carries the girl out, then notices a horde of zombies heading towards them. They are already at the cemetery gates!]

Grace: Oh shit.

[Leon also sees the whole situation.]

Leon: That girl just can’t stay out of trouble.

[He jumps out of the window onto a roof and calls Sherry, his coordinator.]

Leon: Sherry, Grace is still here.

Sherry: The FBI agent?

Leon: Yeah. Found some files on Victor’s computer. She’s connected to this somehow.

Sherry: Is she OK?

Leon: No, but I’ve got her covered.

[He steps onto a balcony, a better vantage point for firing, and provides cover for Grace as she carries Emily. Grace tries to shoulder-open the church door.]

Leon: Must be time for the evening service.

[He kills zombies one by one with precise shots.]

Leon: Next. Hang in there, Grace. Alright.

[Having taken out the last one, he slides across the roof and heads towards Grace, who is now inside the church. He lands on a zombie, crushing its head with his boot.]

Leon: ’Scuse me.

[Leon reaches the church, now engulfed in flames. Emily is in very bad shape, lying on the floor, with Grace, fighting back tears, leaning over her.]

Grace: Stay with me. Oh god.

[She tries to press her hands against the wound on the girl’s chest.]

Leon: Grace.

Grace: Leon!

Leon: Who is she?

Grace: This is Emily. Help me! I-I can’t stop the bleeding.

Leon: Hey, hey, look at me. We’re gonna be OK. Yeah? Can’t stay here. That should be the way to the water treatment plant. It’s our way out. Let’s go.

[He takes Emily in his arms. Zombies slowly surround the church.]

Leon: They just don’t give up. Take her.

[With two precise shots, he kills an approaching zombie.]

Leon: Get her safe. Go! Now!

[A slow but very dangerous zombie, pulsating with pus-filled growths, enters the church. It roars ferociously from a huge, toothy maw.]

Leon: I’ll keep our friends busy.

[A bloody battle begins in the burning church. Leon picks up a fire axe and uses it to cleave through zombie heads.]

Leon: It can mutate others.

[He manages to kill the pus-filled zombie, though the fight is not easy. He holsters his gun with relief and goes to get Grace. They need to descend into a dark, gloomy basement. Leon sighs.]

GRACE ASHCROFT October 9, 6:20 a.m.

[Grace runs across the earthen floor of the dirty basement. Emily moans softly in pain.]

Grace: I’ll get you out, Emily. There’s gotta be a way to get to the surface.

[They end up in the sanatorium’s sewers but later climb higher.]

Emily: Ngh...

Grace: I’m sorry. I know it hurts. I’m so sorry. Dead end...

[They find themselves in a gigantic warehouse. Grace spots The Girl crawling nearby.]

Grace: I can’t let that thing hurt her. It’s OK, Emily. Here. Rest here.

[She lays her down on a stack of iron grates.]

Grace: Here you go. I need to keep you safe.

Emily: OK.

[Roof Hatch Manual]
The roof hatch is operated by the panel outside the storage bay.
Troubleshooting:
If power supply errors persist, you must restart the three power distribution units in the lower area. This should reactivate the control panel and allow you to operate the hatch.

[As she leaves, she closes a metal roll-up door behind her to keep others out. Now she needs to deal with The Girl. She opens a hatch on the warehouse roof, but the process stops.]

Announcement: Insufficient power. Reset the power distribution units on the lower floor.

Grace: Gotta get the power on. It’s my only chance.

[She goes down lower, but The Girl is already there. After the first switch, it grabs Grace by the head and throws her to the floor.]

Grace: What the fuck!?

[Now The Girl is very close. Grace chooses not to confront it directly, as she lacks the firepower to fight such a creature. She distracts it by throwing empty bottles and using her flashlight, allowing her to reach the switches.]

Grace: Only one more.

[The last switch refuses to turn!]

Grace: Why... is it...so stiff?

[She has to lure The Girl over long distances to have time to wrestle with the stuck handle. And she succeeds!]

Power has been successfully restored.

[Now, with light everywhere, The Girl’s eyes hurt, and it runs away.]

Grace: This should open the hatch. I need to hurry.

[However, The Girl finds a way to reach her. It slowly walks towards its prey.]

Grace: We’re getting out of here. Get out of the way!

[She presses a button, and the hatch on the ceiling slowly opens, flooding the entire space with light.]

Grace: Come on! Open!

[Due to the abundance of sunlight, The Girl begins to smoke. Grace shoots it in the head several times, and it screams madly in pain, melting from within. It turns into a heap of rotten, oozing flesh.]

Grace: Ugh, finally...

[She runs to Emily...]

Grace: Emily, it’s me!

[...but the girl seems dead.]

Grace: Emily? Oh no. Oh no. Oh no! Wake up! Come on! Oh shit.

[No pulse can be felt at her wrist.]

Grace: Oh no. Emily!

[She tries to perform CPR, counting the rhythm out loud.]

Grace: Come on, Emily. Wake up, Emily! Come on!

[She continues CPR, also breathing air into her mouth. Gradually, she loses control of her emotions.]

Grace: Come on!

[Grace’s hands slow to a stop. She begins to cry and sinks to the floor.]

Grace: Emily! I failed you.

[And then Emily’s hand twitches.]

Grace: Emily!? Hi, it’s me. I’m right here. You’re OK. You’re OK.

[However, the girl begins to scream piercingly, as if a demon has possessed her. She falls to the floor and writhes in convulsions. Afterwards... she mutates. Grace watches the process in horror, on the verge of a nervous breakdown. She slowly crawls backward, towards the door. Emily transforms into a shapeless leech with a claw. With this claw, she smashes everything around.]

Grace: E-Emily!? Emily! Emily?

[The creature notices Grace and lunges at her, but Leon runs up and fires several shots, driving the monster away from Grace.]

Grace: No! no, no, no, no, no, no. That’s Emily! It’s Emily!

[She hangs on Leon’s arm, the one holding the gun.]

Leon: I’m sorry.

[We switch to Leon—our task is to finish off the creature. Leon doesn’t hesitate and pulls the trigger, despite Grace’s pleas.]

Grace: Are you listening? I said stop! That’s—that’s Emily! Please listen to me! Leon, listen to me! Please, stop! Please!

[The creature falls and dies.]

Grace: No!

[In tears, she crawls towards the shapeless beast.]

Grace: No, no, no, no, no! No, no, no, no—Emily! I wanted to save her!

Leon: You don’t understand, that’s wh—

Grace: No! I never would have escaped without her. This is all my fault. Again!

Leon: Look, I get it. Trust me, I get it. But we’re still alive. We have to keep going.

[Grace throws Leon’s huge pistol, which she has been carrying all this time, at his feet.]

Grace: No.

Leon: Grace...

[Grace slowly walks away. Leon wants to bend down for his gun but falls to one knee and vomits blood. With a habitual motion, he wipes the blood from his mouth. Grace walks on, staring at the floor, not even noticing Victor standing nearby.]

Victor: Elpis is within reach, Grace. I’d like you to come with me.

Grace: Come with you?

Victor: Oh, you feel lost, but you’re not.

[He presses a button that raises a massive metal door right in front of Grace. It leads outside.]

Victor: You’re exactly where you need to be.

[Beyond the door, a middle-aged man in dark sunglasses with slicked-back silver hair awaits her. He wears a white lab coat and a leather cloak draped over his shoulders. Black veins are visible on the man’s face. He smokes a cigarette, wearing leather gloves.]

Unknown Man: I’ve been waiting for you, Grace.

Grace: Who are you?

[The man gazes into the distance.]

Unknown Man: Raccoon City... You’re the reason for its destruction. But you’re also the key to building a brave new world. You’re the final piece. Let us show you your true purpose.

[A helicopter flies towards them, and we switch to Sherry. She swallows some oxycodone hydrochloride (a strong painkiller) and looks at herself in the mirror, then removes a glove from her hand, on which black veins are also visible. Inhaling, she returns to work.]

Sherry: Hey, checking in.

[Meanwhile, Leon is driving in his car.]

Leon: Good timing. Did you find anything on Elpis?

Sherry: Not yet. Nothing on the servers at the CIA or the Pentagon.

Leon: Maybe we need a higher clearance.

Sherry: I requested one and I was told to shut down the investigation.

Leon: What? Why?

Sherry: They didn’t say. Orders from on high.

Leon: Look, we don’t need you taking a hit for this. I’ll just go it alone.

[Leon heads straight for Raccoon City! The city greets him with dust and abandoned buildings.]

Sherry: We’re in this together. Till the end. I’ve always been good at working in the shadows.

Leon: Just don’t do anything too risky, yeah?

Sherry: Me? Never.

Leon: I’m gonna find Grace. She definitely has something to do with Elpis.

[We get a stunning wide shot of the city, at the center of which yawns a huge crater, partially filled with water, from the nuclear explosion that occurred back in Resident Evil 3. Hello to everyone who saw it in 1999! Personally, I couldn’t contain my emotions. The surrounding area is partially or completely destroyed.]

RACCOON CITY

[Entering the city, Leon stops and gets out of the car.]

Leon: Well, the road’s gone. Gonna have to find another way around.

Sherry: Alright. I’ll leave that to you. I think I found a clue as to where they might be. Some coordinates on Victor’s computer.

Leon: Got it, thanks.

Sherry: Right in the center of Raccoon City.

[Raccoon City]
A city in the Midwest surrounded by nature. From the early to mid-90s, pharmaceutical giant Umbrella invested heavily in the city.
However, in September 1998, the T-Virus leaked from Umbrella’s underground laboratory, causing a city-wide epidemic.
On October 1, the U.S. government recognized the severity of the situation and ordered a sterilization of the city. Raccoon City was wiped off the face of the earth and remains under lockdown to this day.

[Umbrella]
Umbrella was founded in 1968 by three people, one of whom was Ozwell E. Spencer.
On the surface it was a successful international corporation, but beneath the veneer lay a hive of illegal research, including development of the T-Virus.
The infamous 1998 disaster, now known as the "Raccoon Incident," exposed their illicit deeds to the public. Umbrella went to trial and eventually ceased operations in 2004, after declaring bankruptcy.

[Ozwell E. Spencer]
Spencer was a founding member, and leader, of Umbrella. His excellent managerial skills helped the company grow into a major corporation.
His true nature, however, was that of a monster who repeatedly conducted inhumane tests to advance his illegal viral research. Spencer was egotistical and ruthless in pursuit of his ambitions. It’s believed he took out the other founders of Umbrella.
He passed away in 2006 at his secluded estate, Umbrella went under.

[Raccoon City Incident Newspaper]
EVACUATE IMMEDIATELY!
If you are in Raccoon City, I urge you to evacuate now! Leave if you can!
If you cannot evacuate, go to the police station, the nearest public facility, wherever you can!
Take any weapon you have and hide in the nearest sturdy building.
This will probably be the last paper we will publish. And I am the last Raccoon Times reporter.
Thank you, dear readers, for all your support over the years.
I urge you once more. Run. Find somewhere safe.
Survive.

[Leon walks through the dusty ghost town, gun at the ready.]

Leon: It’s like time stopped here.

Sherry: If not for Umbrella, it could’ve just been a normal city.

Leon: Yeah. Now it’s nothing but ash and memories.

[Leon continues searching for the way to the epicenter of the blast. He accidentally steps on a human skull, and it awakens memories... at this time, a spider-like monster watches him from a rooftop. It descends silently like Shelob from The Lord of the Rings—incidentally, the monster’s size is comparable to hers.]

Leon: Oh, holy shit.

[The spider tries to attack Leon with a leg, but he dodges and strikes the leg with his axe.]

Leon: Oh, fuck.

[He runs from the spider and hides in a building. The spider cannot follow him and, in its attempts to squeeze through, collapses the ceiling, blocking the passage. Now Leon is trapped in the building and needs to find a way out. Meanwhile, the spider searches for a way to get inside... and it succeeds very quickly. It chases Leon down a long corridor and smashes through a wall with a kick of its leg. Leon climbs to the floor above, where he must fight the spider.]

Leon: You’re a real pest, you know that?

[Leon pulls out his shotgun and shoots the spider right in the face, then notices growths on its rear and concentrates fire on them. The spider, not expecting such resistance, flees.]

Leon: Where are ya?

[The battle continues, and finally the spider tires of it all and pins Leon against the wall, trying to devour him. Leon grabs his axe and starts striking the spider’s chitinous head-plate. They crash through several floors under the creature’s immense weight, and there Leon delivers the final blow with his axe straight into its toothy maw.]

Leon: I missed that Raccoon City hospitality.

[He finds himself in a subway tunnel and quickly emerges onto the surface, arriving at massive iron gates leading to the city center.]

Leon: OK, Sherry, I’ve hit the barricade. Looks like someone else was here first...

[He looks at the bomb on the gate.]

And they were planning on busting way in. Know a way around?

Sherry: The Army Corps of Engineers erected it to seal the city. It goes on for miles.

Leon: Guess the only way is through then.

[He examines the bomb and realizes the detonator is missing. Leon goes to scout the area.]

[Orders for the Engineer Corps]
The detonator requires three parts.
Signal Receiver: East Point
Distributor: Mid Point
Relay: West Point
Retrieve them immediately.
We don’t have much time. If combat is unavoidable, deal with it quickly.
Provide situational updates every 30 minutes.

Leon: Sherry, there’s an old BSAA camp here. Place is trashed. Looks like they left in a hurry.

Sherry: What were the BSAA doing in Raccoon City?

[Leon boots up a military laptop sitting on a table.]

Leon: Interesting.

Sherry: What is it?

Leon: The computer’s not locked. And they were also headed to the center of Raccoon City.

Sherry: Interesting too... That reminds me. I dug a little deeper in the Pentagon’s database, and I noticed... something’s missing.

Leon: What’s that?

Sherry: There’s no record of anyone ordering the missile strike on Raccoon City.

Leon: Well if not them, then who?

[He doesn’t know that someone is watching him through a specially configured camera on the laptop—and it’s Victor, currently flying in a helicopter with a personal pilot, Grace, and the man in glasses.]

Victor: Leon triggered the alarm. (to the unknown man) Looks like your campaign to make the DSO stand down really didn’t work, Zeno.

Zeno: I’ll leave this matter to you, then.

[Meanwhile, Leon continues to explore the surroundings. He enters a massive warehouse.]

Leon: Strange. Where are all the bodies?

[In answer to his question, several dry zombies attack him. He defeats them and approaches a crane to clear a path.]

Leon: Busted. I’ll have to shoot it down.

[He emerges onto a roof.]

Leon: Bad news, Sherry, this place is overrun with zombies.

Sherry: That’s impossible. They should’ve all been wiped out by the missile.

Leon: Yeah. They should’ve.

[He surveys the warehouse roof.]

Leon: There should be a part for the detonator somewhere around here. Sherry, found the distributor. Two more parts and I can jerry-rig the detonator for that gate.

Sherry: Great. Can you see any more from your position?

[Leon scans the surrounding rooftops with binoculars.]

Leon: Another BSAA camp... That should have the signal receiver. The relay’s over there, huh? That should be a fun trip. Got the location for those parts. Going to collect them now.

Sherry: OK. I’ll look into the BSAA in the meantime.

[Leon starts searching the marked locations, fighting, and looking for paths.]

[Battery Storage Locations]
All staff,
When a battery dies, you’ll need to get a new one from either the sewage facility or the underground parking garage.

[Having collected the batteries, he steps outside, where he discovers several corpses of BSAA soldiers. Leon connects to a camera on a soldier’s helmet to see what happened.]

Squad Leader: We encountered three infected and eliminated them. That’s correct, sir. Do we proceed?

Commando B: So the rumors were true.

Commando A: What rumors?

Commando B: The missile wasn’t just about stopping the spread.

Commando A: Don’t be ridiculous.

Squad Leader: Affirmative. Listen up! Our objective hasn’t changed. We rendezvous with the advance party in the center of Raccoon City, then head for ARK. Our mission is to retrieve Elpis. Move out!

[They move out into the street in a combat formation. Someone kills one of the soldiers with what seems like a powerful sniper rifle—the soldier’s head simply explodes.]

Commando B: Man down! Man down!

Squad Leader: Return fi—

Commando C: Contact left! Contact left!

[They begin to die one by one, bursting in fountains of blood.]

Commando A: Ah! Jesus fuck!

Commando B: Where is he? I’m fucking blind here! Oh god! Oh, my fucking leg!

Commando A: Fuck! Get cover! Get cover!

Commando B: Please, help me!

Commando A: Holy shit.

[The last soldier is killed by Zeno. In his hands is a rather large revolver. The recording ends.]

Leon: I thought I had a short fuse.

[We see that Grace and Zeno have landed. Zeno leads Grace somewhere, carrying a briefcase.]

Grace: What are we doing here?

Zeno: All in good time. You’ll see.

[Leon takes the container key from the dead squad leader and continues his search.]

[Inventory List]
Container 01: Medical supplies, consumables
Container 02: Motorcycle, repair kit
Container 03: Sniper rifles
Container 04: Sniper rifle attachments

Leon: Sent some footage your way, Sherry.

Sherry: What the hell?

Leon: The guy at the end. White suit. Can you find anything on him?

Sherry: Yeah, hold on. The database is coming up empty.

Leon: So there are ghosts involved with Elpis, too.

[In one of the containers, Leon finds a motorcycle in excellent condition.]

Leon: Beautiful. Just need to get through that gate.

[He encounters a zombie with a chainsaw.]

Leon: Let me guess, you must be the town lumberjack.

[After a long wander through the ghost city, Sherry calls Leon again, but this time just to talk.]

Sherry: Hey, Leon. Do you still think about what happened there?

Leon: Every day.

Sherry: That night, I was just a kid. Scared and confused... I imagine Grace must feel the same right now.

Leon: Sherry...

Sherry: Sorry. This isn’t the time, we need to focus.

[Leon climbs onto a second roof after a difficult and dangerous journey.]

[Engineer Corps Note]
Go grab a repair kit from container 02 in the central camp. The signal receiver got all beat up during transport and we need to fix it.
I just got reassigned and can’t get it myself. This one’s up to you, Graves.

Leon: Sherry, got the signal receiver.

Sherry: OK. One component left. By the way... I found some evidence of the Pentagon putting pressure on the BSAA. It appears the North American branch has been moving independently.

Leon: Heard they had an internal dispute... Think it’s related?

Sherry: That’s all I’ve got. There’s been an increase in government surveillance. Looks like my fan base is growing.

Leon: Some things never change. Watch your back. I’ll contact you again soon.

[He ascends to the last and most dangerous roof of a dilapidated building. He has to traverse the wall of an elevator shaft, tilted at 45 degrees, while the elevator cars themselves are still hanging at the top and barely holding on!]

Leon: Oh fuck.

[The cars crash down, but Leon manages to leap aside. He reaches the very roof.]

Leon: OK, let’s find those detonator parts.

[Finally, he collects the last, third part of the detonator!]

Leon: Picked up the relay.

Sherry: Great job. Now to get through that gate.

Leon: Yeah. Just gotta figure out how to get down from here first.

[He looks around and sees a suspended platform stuck on the opposite building.]

Leon: That’ll get me down.

[He reaches it with difficulty and descends lower, but the platform gets stuck.]

Leon: Now what?

[A zombie jumps down towards him. Leon shoots it in the head with his shotgun.]

Leon: You’ll have to take the next one.

[The platform breaks loose and hangs precariously over the abyss.]

Leon: Oh no.

[Leon jumps off it and makes his way back into the city.]

Leon: That took longer than planned. Luckily I found a bike—it should make up for lost time.

Sherry: Great, you’ll need it. It’s 15 miles to the city center on the 419.

[Leon blows up the gates, gets on his motorcycle, and with a roar of the engine, speeds forward. He rides onto a highway clogged with abandoned cars, carefully weaving between them.]

Leon: Alright, should make it there in no time.

Sherry: Good to hear. How’re the roads? Leon?

Leon: Just a few... potholes.

[He notices Victor standing on a nearby building. In his hands... a flare gun. He blows up the road in front of Leon, but that doesn’t stop him. So Victor sends three mutant dogs, the size of horses, after him.]

Leon: This day just keeps getting better and better.

[He hits the gas, firing from a compact automatic rifle. Victor himself joins the chase on a motorcycle. The mutant wolves block Leon’s path.]

Leon: These pups could use more training.

[He mows them down with the automatic rifle and keeps going. Victor fires a grenade launcher at Leon.]

Victor: Die, you fool!

[Leon races at breakneck speed on the motorcycle, shooting at new wolves, trying to hit Victor, and, of course, not dying during the next jump or sharp turn. Soon, the road is blocked by metal debris.]

Leon: So much for the direct route.

[The chase continues. Victor uses the grenade launcher again to cut off Leon’s path.]

Leon: Again. Seriously? I don’t give up that easy.

[He catches up to Victor, and an adrenaline-fueled duel ensues between them.]

Victor: I’ve had enough of you!

Leon: I know the feeling!

[He kicks Victor’s motorcycle, and it stops—the axe pierced the gas tank during the duel, and now fuel is leaking from it. Leon stops opposite him. There’s no road ahead, just a cliff. The only way is back, towards Victor.]

Victor: Come on!

[Leon rides forward and fires. Victor’s motorcycle catches fire, he falls off it and, pinned by the motorcycle, slides into the abyss. The motorcycle explodes.]

Leon: Should’ve worn a helmet.

RACCOON CITY CENTER October 9, 1:57 p.m.

[Leon arrives at the center. His fuel is almost at zero, and he decides to abandon the motorcycle.]

Sherry: You should be close to the coordinates.

Leon: Yeah. Looks like it. I’ll take a look around then.

[After walking a bit, he reaches the gates of his police station as we saw them in Resident Evil 3. He approaches the door and opens it with effort. Ghosts of the past assail him—he sees scenes from Resident Evil 2 Remake.]

Marvin: It’s on you now.

[Even the music subtly reminds you of that very theme. The station is abandoned and covered in a thick layer of dust and small debris.]

Leon: Sherry, I’m in R.P.D.

Sherry: It’s been a while since you’ve been back there...

Leon: Yeah.

[He looks at that very statue under which the passage was hidden—it is now partially destroyed.]

Leon: Looks like the BSAA set up HQ here.

Sherry: Abandoned?

Leon: Not sure.

[He looks at an aerial photo of Raccoon City dated 05/02/2023 and labeled ARK. Then he examines a banner lying in the dirt reading WELCOME LEON and reads a handwritten note - YOU CAN’T SAVE ANYONE. A nearby laptop with surveillance cameras turns on. On one of the cameras, Leon sees Zeno.]

Leon: That fucking guy... And Grace. Shit, she’s in danger. Sherry, I found Grace.

Sherry: At R.P.D.?

Leon: Yeah, exactly. And someone’s been expecting us.

[He drops the note on the floor and starts pressing the laptop’s keyboard buttons. A map appears, very similar to the one we saw in the original Resident Evil 2.]

Leon: Got a lock on her location. Headed there now.

Sherry: Copy that.

[Leon draws his gun and goes to save Grace. He walks past Marvin’s desk.]

Leon: Hey, Lieutenant Branagh. Kennedy...reporting for duty.

[He reads Marvin’s diary.]

[Top Secret Operation]
Champions of justice, are you ready?
Duty calls!
Provisions Specialist Neil,
Do you have the pizza and beer at the ready? Make sure you’ve got some soda on hand too— in case the rookie is liver-conscious.
Decoration Manager Elliot,
Think you’re an artist? Then use the banner with the stars on it. Make sure you use the banner with the stars on it.
Gift Coordinator Scott,
Don’t forget to pick up the goods from Robert’s shop on the day. Get what Barry suggested, that man knows his stuff!! One last thing! Make sure the chief doesn’t catch wind of the welcome party for the new recruit. We wouldn’t want to put young Kennedy in his bad books right away.
Marvin

[Record of Events]
September 25th
We’re turning the station into a temporary shelter due to the sudden massive outbreak. All police personnel have been instructed to make the safety of the citizens their top priority as we try to accommodate as many of them as possible.
September 25th (addendum)
One of the refugees attacked us in the middle of the night, resulting in the death of one officer and injuring three others. The person in question was quickly restrained. We believe this was simply a case of someone snapping under intense stress.
September 26th
A mob attacked the station today, resulting in a number of casualties. A few survivors were able to make it safely behind the emergency shutters, but surrounded as we are, it’ll be hard for any of us to escape this place. We’re not sure we can fix any of our comm equipment, so we remain cut off from the other side.
September 27th
There was another clash on the west side of the station around 1 p.m. Twelve people died, and there is only a handful of survivors left. Everything is falling into disarray in here.
David Ford

[Leon even encounters a zombie in a police uniform...]

Leon: Jesus.

[He puts his former colleague to rest with a shotgun blast to the head.]

Leon: Rest easy, officer.

[He finds a photo of the old S.T.A.R.S. team in the iconic location—the squad’s office. It’s very dark in the office, though, making it hard to make out details. The caption reads "5/24/1996 - with the elite S.T.A.R.S. members"]

Leon: Good lives needlessly lost...

[Barry’s To Do List]
- Turn in training plan for the new recruit.
- Join Jill at the shooting range.
- Pick the girls up from soccer. (Don’t be late!)
- Find that missing library book.
↑ TOP PRIORITY!
Looks like the librarian is about to blow a gasket.

[Leon finds the very place where he saw Zeno. He hides around a corner and eavesdrops on the conversation, gun at the ready.]

Zeno: Covert military units from every country on Earth come to Raccoon City for one purpose... To find Elpis.

Grace: Wh-What is Elpis?

Zeno: The power to upset the military balance of the world. The last virus created by Spencer. Designed to control human consciousness.

Grace: Mind control?

Zeno: They couldn’t let it be stolen. So they launched the missile strike to hide it.

Grace: To hide a virus... Why do something so extreme?

Zeno: Extreme? Is it? When the president tried to investigate, they had him assassinated. And you are the key to retrieving Elpis.

[He presses a button, and a photo of Emily appears on the screen.]

Grace: Emily?

[The date on the photo shown is 10-01-2020]

Zeno: In a way, but not the girl you met.

[The next photo—the same girl, but the date is 12-05-2016]

Zeno: So many attempts. So many failures.

[Grace scrolls through photos dated 06-25-2013, 09-17-2010, 11-26-2007, 05-19-2005. The same face is in all of them.]

Zeno: Such a waste.

[He lights a cigarette.]

Grace: Wh-What do you mean?

Zeno: Copies, crafted to duplicate you.

[It dawns on Grace that Emily strangely resembles her.]

Zeno: All useless. All scrapped. They each have their own sad story.

[He shows another video of Emily sleeping in a bed.]

RACCOON CITY ORPHANAGE February 1990

[We switch to that very "Emily" shown in the video. She is sleeping peacefully but is awakened by the voices of researchers through the door.]

Researcher A: Oh my god!

Researcher B: We need to do something!

Researcher A: I called security, but nobody answered.

Researcher B: They are out of control.

[Sounds of breaking glass are heard, frightening Emily.]

Researcher C: Doctor, we can’t contain them!

Researcher B: Sedate them, now!

Researcher A: Are you kidding me!?

Researcher B: Get out of my way!

[Our new girl’s name is Chloe. She calls out to her friend nearby, but her bed is empty.]

Chloe: Hey, are you awake?

[She hears screams.]

Chloe: What? Where did everybody go?

[She goes to inspect the room.]

Chloe: But it’s past our bedtime. Weren’t they just here?

[She looks at a photo on the wall showing seven girls of roughly similar appearance—due to the photo quality, it’s hard to tell if they are identical or not. Next to them are two male researchers. Chloe leaves the room and discovers, in the next room, a researcher surrounded by five girls... their heads are clean-shaven, and crude surgical scars are visible on them. They smile silently, giggle softly, and their eyes glow with a red light.]

Researcher A: Stay away! Stay away! Get back! Don’t come closer!

[He tries to shoot a girl in the head, but the wound heals instantly. The researcher falls to the floor.]

Researcher A: No... Get back!

[The girls reach their hands towards him, and one of them snaps his neck.]

Chloe: Hey! What are you doing!?

[The girls turn towards her. Horrified, Chloe closes the door and runs back to her room, hiding under the bed. The girls walk from bed to bed, banging on them with their fists, but they don’t get a chance to search under Chloe’s bed because a nurse’s scream attracts their attention. Chloe continues to explore other rooms. She finds a Black researcher on the floor.]

Chloe: He’s not...moving.

[She encounters the girls again and hides. They behave like living dolls—no injuries harm them; they always get up and continue to exist. Chloe finds a hatch key but can’t reach it—those creepy girls are all around.]

Chloe: Wh-What do I do? What do I do?

[She quietly slips past them and descends into the basement through the hatch.]

Chloe: Wh-Why did they...

[She simply walks through dark corridors, quietly crying, eventually reaching some kind of altar behind which the Umbrella symbol is secretly located. At the door, she realizes she can’t reach the ladder that theoretically leads outside; she needs something to stand on to reach it. Looking around, she finds a very suitable object. It’s a small child’s coffin, not just one, but many, stored in a back area near the altar. Inside one, she finds a tag.]

[Toe Tag]
Name of Deceased: Charlotte
Age: 7 years 2 months
Sex: Female
Date of Death: January 14, 1990
Comments: Discarded due to volatile symptoms

[However, a little girl naturally cannot drag this coffin, so she uses it to climb over an iron grate and grab a fire poker. But as she exits the iron gates, other shaven-headed girls start emerging from the coffins. With a scream, Chloe runs towards the ladder. She lowers it with the poker, clambers up, and closes the lid behind her to stop the crawling girls from reaching her.]

Chloe: Wh-What’s wrong with them!?

[She seems on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Chloe emerges into the snow-white corridors of the research center.]

Chloe: Wh-What... What is this place?

[Series 60 Results]
Though the Series 60 possesses recombinant DNA, increasing the volume of Spencer’s injected plasma did not result in successful memory transfer. Mental abnormalities were developed.
We will perform the next medical procedure and progress to the final phase.
However, after adjusting the viral load in the blood of Series 70 subject "Chloe," improved signs of stability were observed.
We will continue to monitor her progress.

[New Researcher’s Notebook]
Today was unbelievable.
I somehow got invited to the renowned Ozwell E. Spencer’s lab.
I heard rumors about the place, but to think ARK has been underneath me this entire time!
I was given a quick tour of the orphanage too. The children there really creeped me out—they all have nasty surgical scars across their heads, and if you meet their gaze, they’ll greet you with this unsettling giggle.
Apparentely, they are used for human experiments. The whole thing gives me goosebumps.
To have built a place like this, Spencer must’ve been more unhinged than any of us imagined.
Sensational.
The prospect of being able to freely experiment on those kids sends shivers of anticipation throughout my entire body. It’s all so exciting!
For now, I’ll start by making the rounds at the orphanage tonight. It seems like the newbie always gets stuck with the boring jobs. Hopefully I can wrap up the tedious bits quickly so I can prepare for the real fun tomorrow.

[She finds a large photograph on the wall titled "April 15, 1987 - Mr. Spencer’s Visit". In it, there are about 32 girls of roughly similar appearance, although some have different hair colors and hairstyles. Later, Chloe enters a large meeting hall, where she sees photos on a projector that make her understand that people like her are simply grown. While she is engrossed in looking at the photos, a researcher approaches her.]

Researcher B: Chloe?

Chloe: Is that how I—?

[With a swift motion, he injects a sedative into her neck. The girl loses consciousness instantly.]

Researcher B: I’ve got her! Get over here, now!

[He examines her pupils.]

Researcher B: She’s showing symptoms too. We need to get rid of her.

[Chloe is picked up and hurriedly carried away. Grace watches all this with a mixture of bitterness and anger.]

Zeno: They weren’t able to recreate Spencer’s key. But now we have the original. We have you. You can unlock Elpis at ARK. That’s where we’ll go.

Grace: So, wh-what? I-I... I was made?

[Zeno replies with some pleasure in his voice.]

Zeno: Correct.

[Grace is shocked.]

Grace: So it was all my fault?

Zeno: What was?

Grace: That Mom was murdered and... Oh god, that Emily, sh-she turned into that... that thing.

[Grace is already on the verge of a nervous breakdown.]

Zeno: What’s done is done. You need to focus on the future.

Grace: Was she even really my mother?

[She remembers Alyssa.]

Zeno: It’s time to embrace your destiny.

[Grace is overcome by visions of all the horrors she is the cause of. They claw at her soul like monsters. She screams, and at that moment, Leon bursts in with his gun drawn.]

Leon: Grace!

Grace: Mom...

[She loses consciousness from the shock. Leon tries to shoot Zeno, but he dodges with lightning speed, much like a certain infamous villain in this game series.]

Leon: What the...?

Zeno: Mr. Kennedy. I had a feeling you’d make an appearance. Sorry, but I don’t have time to spare.

[The ceiling collapses, and into the room comes... Mr. X. Zeno picks up Grace.]

Zeno: Have fun.

[Zeno flees. Mr. X advances on Leon.]

Leon: I remember you.

[He immediately shoots Mr. X several times in the chest, but it has no effect. He tries to fight him hand-to-hand, but Mr. X is many times stronger and hits like a hammer.]

Leon: I remember that, too.

[He fires his large-caliber pistol, burying Mr. X under a pile of debris.]

Leon: Sherry. Wasn’t there an orphanage around here?

Sherry: Yes, there was. Why?

Leon: I’m gonna do some digging.

Sherry: I just sent you the coordinates.

[Now Leon must leave the police station as quickly as possible, as Mr. X is hunting him!]

Leon: Give me a goddamn break!

[Leon reaches the main entrance. It seems Mr. X has stopped pursuing.]

Sherry: Everything all right, Leon?

Leon: Yeah. I’m good.

Sherry: So, why’d you ask about the orphanage?

Leon: They’re taking Grace to ARK. The orphanage is the entrance.

Sherry: What is ARK?

Leon: Not sure, but apparently it’s someplace important.

[Leon exits into the city and heads towards the orphanage. He enters the former iconic Gun Shop Kendo and examines a flyer.]

Leon: It hasn’t changed...

[He sees that very basement and remembers the moment when Robert Kendo himself defended his daughter, who had become a zombie. Leon slowly opens the door and finds only bones behind it. He remembers...]

Kendo: "Terminate"? That’s my fucking daughter! You’re a cop. You’re supposed to know something—how did this happen?

[Leon notices a prescription for pills for Emma, Robert’s daughter, issued by the Umbrella Corporation.]

Kendo: Those fuckin’ things outside... Look what they did to us.

[Leon ponders what happened back then for a long time.]

Leon: I am so sorry.

[A crash is heard from afar.]

Leon: Never again.

[He goes outside and sees the cause of the crash—Mr. X, standing on a roof, has torn a missile from a downed helicopter with his bare hands.]

Leon: Fuck me.

[He runs, hides behind a car, but the blast still throws him a considerable distance. Mr. X jumps down to Leon. The arena is engulfed in flames, and there’s nowhere to run. And Mr. X has another missile... he even seems to be smiling.]

Leon: I couldn’t save them. But I can stop bastards like you.

[He shoots the missile, and it explodes. Mr. X merely mutates slightly and loses his clothes. The fight begins! Mr. X hurls cars, and Leon doesn’t spare his arsenal against such a monster. He even manages to embed his axe in its chest.]

Leon: Die already, you son of a bitch.

[A pulsating, pus-filled sore opens on Mr. X’s chest. Leon baits it into striking the ground and dodges. Mr. X’s mutated hand gets stuck in the ground, allowing Leon to shoot the weak point.]

Leon: Not...yet...

[A fountain of blood erupts from Mr. X’s chest, its ribs crack inward, and it dies, falling to the ground.]

Leon: I’ll stop you as many times as I have to.

[He picks up the remaining ammo and heads towards the orphanage, which is in a very sorry state—part of the building has literally collapsed.]

Leon: I’m at the orphanage, Sherry. There’s not much left of it. Heading underground to look for Grace.

Sherry: Understood.

[A very difficult path lies ahead, as all direct routes have long been buried. He has to leave the building and re-enter it several times, even traversing a half-destroyed train car, where a mutated plant attacks him.]

Leon: Seriously.

[He kills the plant with one precise shot, but afterwards, the car begins to fall into the abyss, as that very plant was literally holding it up. Leon nimbly jumps from the falling car.]

Leon: I guess this is my stop.

[He finds a thick military cable tied to a post.]

Leon: BSAA left something behind.

[Using the cable, he descends into dark, root-infested depths.]

Leon: Finally reached the bottom. This is one very deep hole.

Sherry: The perfect place to hide something.

[In the gloomy caves, Leon must fight predatory flowers of various sizes. At the end, a gigantic, horrific version awaits him!]

Leon: Just so you know, I’ve killed every plant I’ve ever had. Stubborn weed, aren’t you? Time to burn you out from the roots!

[He shoots barrels of flammable mixture under the plant. The plant burns in agony, revealing access to a massive circular door leading to the laboratory. Leon plunges into total darkness.]

Leon: Sherry, I found some kind of massive facility.

Sherry: What do you think it is?

Leon: I’m seeing supplies with the logos of the usual suspects.

Sherry: Well, whatever it is, it clearly wasn’t meant to be found.

Leon: Yeah, you’re telling me.

[Moving a bit further, Leon enters the snow-white, sterile corridors of the research center. The design is quite futuristic. He moderately explores the empty corridors, data centers, and laboratories.]

[N0-AH Status Report]

[Finally, Leon finds a security post where monitors show an overview of the entire building, as well as surveillance cameras. He locates a place on the map marked as Pandora.]

Leon: OK. Huh?

[He notices on the cameras that several soldiers are running through the corridors towards him.]

Leon: I’m gettin’ the feeling I’m not wanted around here.

[He slings his rifle off his shoulder and goes to meet the guests. An adrenaline-fueled, tense battle begins with elite guards in a darkened data center. Only thanks to his honed skills does Leon survive. He enters a vast room designed as an exhibition. In many rooms, people have been turned into art installations.]

[Raccoon City Bioweapon Research - Report]
As previously stated, ARK is focused on bioweapon research and development, utilizing the unique environment of Raccoon City.
In particular, experiments performed by infecting nearby zombies with the mutated T-Virus strain have yielded a great deal of empirical data.
This has also proven effective against the BSAA’s attempts to eradicate ARK.
The development of a new bioweapon based on this hard data is in the final stages. If said bioweapon is released, we can expect further profit growth next year.
ARK has now become a key bioweapon production hub for North America. It will continue to bring great benefits to us and the United States.

[An elite soldier with an axe and a gas mask enters the room.]

Operator: Backup is on the way.

???: Not necessary. I’ll neutralize the target myself.

[He charges at Leon with the axe, dodging his shots, and a fight ensues. They exchange high-precision blows, after which Leon throws the soldier onto a glass panel, smashing through it, and they fall into an inner area lit only by red lights.]

???: Leon Kennedy. We finally meet.

[He draws two knives—one regular, one with a curved tip. The fight continues.]

Leon: Didn’t realize I had such a big fan. How about an autograph?

???: I heard you were a smart-ass.

[They exchange blows.]

???: Not bad for someone at death’s door.

Leon: Worried about me? How sweet.

[Sensing he is losing, the soldier breaks a pipe, plunging the battlefield into a red mist.]

Leon: Sneaky bastard. Getting a little handsy, aren’t we?

???: Make no mistake. Nothing will stand in my way. I will complete this mission.

[However, Leon manages to drive his axe into the soldier’s throat. The soldier falls to the floor. Leon takes the fallen enemy’s axe.]

Leon: Ran into trouble. This guy was one tough bastard.

Sherry: Coming from you, that’s quite the compliment.

Leon: Grace should be nearby. Time to finally get some answers.

[Finally, he reaches Pandora, a circular room with a platform in the center reached by a long bridge. The room is bathed in golden light, and red plastic spheres line the walls. An unusual control panel is installed on the platform. Zeno and Grace are standing there.]

Zeno: Grace, this is where we are. The world is under threat. The technology to control another’s will already exists. But it’s not efficient at infecting others. I believe Spencer solved that with Elpis. The Connections sealed Raccoon City to save it for themselves. And it’s been waiting here ever since.

[He presses a button, revealing a keyboard on the control panel. A question is displayed on the screen.]

"What does the creator desire?"

Zeno: This is as far as we could get. If the wrong password is entered, the ARK will be destroyed, and Elpis will be lost forever.

Zeno: So tell me, Grace. What’s the password?

Grace: I-I don’t know.

Zeno: Of course you do. You’re the—

[Leon enters. He aims his gun at Zeno.]

Grace: Leon!

Zeno: Don’t embarrass yourself, Mr. Kennedy. You can’t beat me.

[He deftly dodges the shots and presses his horrific revolver to Leon’s head, who doesn’t even flinch.]

Leon: Aren’t we fancy?

[With a swift motion, he draws his axe and severs Zeno’s gun hand, but Zeno quickly strikes Leon in the throat and reattaches his hand. The fight continues, but Leon takes a powerful blow to the chest and spits blood. Zeno prepares to kill him.]

Grace: Don’t move! W-Wait!

[She presses Leon’s fallen gun to her own head.]

Grace: You still need me, right?

[Zeno is distracted, or he uses this moment. He draws his massive pistol and fires at a joint in a metal structure on the right side of the platform. The structure begins to fall. Leon grabs Grace.]

Leon: Come on! Grab tight!

[He grabs onto the structure, and as it swings to the other side, it braces against the far part of the room. They slide down, smashing through red spheres, then jump onto a small platform that runs along the wall. Zeno aims to shoot but decides against it at the last moment. The platform enters a tunnel. Leon coughs.]

Grace: Are you OK?

Leon: Me? Feel like a million bucks.

Grace: Where does this take us?

Leon: Your guess is as good as mine. Time to get off. Come on.

[They jump down into a room filled with various debris and trash, as well as some organic matter covering the entire floor.]

Grace: What now? Leon?

[He loses consciousness and falls into the filth.]

Grace: Leon!

October 9, 4:53 p.m.

[Grace sits beside Leon’s body, hugging her knees, not knowing what to do. After a while, Leon regains consciousness. Black veins now also cover part of Leon’s face.]

Grace: Leon. Are you OK?

Leon: How long was I out?

Grace: I-I don’t know… A-A while. Those marks...

Leon: It’s T-Virus. Stage three infection.

Grace: I-If you’re so sick, why would you come here?

[Leon ponders the answer.]

Leon: This place... Raccoon City was where it all began for me. When it all happened, I—I couldn’t—I couldn’t make a difference. So I am here, now.

Grace: W-We can’t stop Zeno.

Leon: He said something about you having a password. What was he talking about?

Grace: I- don’t know! I’m sorry, I...

[Leon coughs and stands up heavily, picking up his gun.]

Grace: Here.

[She helps him up.]

Leon: I’m going back. I’m gonna destroy Elpis.

Grace: I’m coming with you.

Leon: No, you’re not.

Grace: I don’t want any more regrets! Whatever it takes, count me in.

[Leon thinks for a few seconds.]

Leon: If anything happens to me... You promise... you’ll end this.

Grace: I promise.

Leon: Come on.

[And... we switch to Grace. First, they need to find a way out of this dump.]

Grace: Look, there’s a door over there.

Leon: Crane’s blocking it though.

[They find a ventilation shaft.]

Grace: I can check it out for us. You think you can give me a boost?

Leon: We’re about to find out.

[He kneels heavily and cups his hands.]

Leon: Come on.

[Grace climbs into the shaft.]

Leon: Watch out for yourself up there, yeah?

Grace: I will.

[She makes her way through the tunnel and kicks out a ventilation grate...]

Grace: Once I go down...there’s no getting back up.

[...and she bravely, without a shadow of hesitation, jumps down into the dimly lit corridors of the laboratory. She approaches a crane control panel.]

Announcement: System locked. Override key required for reactivation.

[Grace needs to find this key. She moves on.]

Announcement: Warning: Threat level "Orange" confirmed in storage sector. Critical error: Containment lockdown failure.

[In one room, she notices a Licker crawling on the glass outside. The dangerous creature certainly startles Grace, but not as much as before. Now she is cautious and observant. The Licker moves closer to her and sniffs the air.]

Grace: It... can’t see?

[She carefully creeps up behind the dangerous creature and injects a virus destroyer into its back, causing the crawling beast to explode. Afterwards, she has to fight several zombies.]

Grace: Alright...I’m not dead yet.

[She finds the key and raises the crane blocking Leon’s path.]

Grace: Alright, Leon. Be careful.

[She retrieves a special magnetic key from a panel that opens up.]

Grace: Nice.

Announcement: Threat level "Red" in storage sector. Rebooting AI control center N0-AH.

Grace: Oh no.

[She continues fighting, using a new weapon—acid bottles.]

[Monitor Control Room Safe]
Emergency supplies code
←50 →60 ←80

Announcement: Al control center NO-AH reboot failure: No response. Containment protocol: Inactive. Containment protocol: Inactive.

Grace: Still have a ways to go. I wonder if Leon’s made it yet.

[She enters a spacious room with slanted corners. In the far part is a computer with a hundred screens and a massive data center along the walls.]

Grace: Whoa.

[A disc in a plastic case emerges from the computer’s disc drive—Grace takes it and examines it carefully.]

Grace: Where have I seen this...?

[She remembers—it’s the same type of floppy disc her mother hid!]

Alyssa: Something important. I’ll explain later.

[She swaps it for the one she found back at the hotel. On the disc, she finds many video files with alphanumeric names and plays one titled "the creator". In the video, an old man in a wheelchair sits by a window. Nearby sits Alyssa.]

Alyssa: Shuttering yourself away in a dark room like this is quite the change for you... after the life you’ve lead.

Old Man: Life takes unexpected turns, don’t you think?

Alyssa: Looking back, do you feel that the choices you’ve made have contributed to… your present circumstances?

Old Man: Of course. What you sow, you reap. Isn’t that the natural order?

Alyssa: So, tell me, Lord Spencer... what would you like the world to know?

Spencer: The truth. But, uh... a short break before we begin, Miss Ashcroft. I’m not a young man. I don’t have the energy I once did.

[The recording stops.]

Grace: Why would Mom hide this?

[She looks at a video titled "Grace"... and we switch to Leon.]

LEON S. KENNEDY A Few Minutes Earlier

[The crane right in front of Leon rises, clearing the path.]

Leon: OK... Back in busi—

[He doubles over in pain and starts coughing.]

Leon: Fuck.

Sherry: You all right, Leon?

Leon: I am now. Grace cleared the way for me.

Sherry: That’s not what I’m talking about. Your body can’t take much more.

Leon: I’m gonna settle this. You just send us a chopper for immediate evacuation.

[He climbs the stairs into the laboratory.]

Announcement: Containment breach. System-wide surveillance failure detected.

[Through a small window, he sees that very "Pandora"—the room bathed in golden light. But that platform is a dozen stories above him.]

Leon: Over there? Easy as pie.

[Several zombies attack him, but Leon’s body is at its limit—he has periodic coughing fits, blurred vision, and has to wait for these symptoms to pass, though in combat conditions, that’s not so easy.]

Leon: Ah, shit. You’ve gotta be kidding me…

Announcement: Security threat detected. Elevator shutdown in effect. Override key authorization required.

Leon: This must be the room.

[However, there are many Lickers around.]

Leon: I’ll take out as many of you fuckers as I can.

[He shoots them in the heads with his massive pistol, turning them into bloody messes.]

Leon: Haven’t changed much, have you?

[He finds a key and activates the elevator.]

Announcement: Warning: Autoclave compromised. Pod lockdown unavailable. Memory corrupt. Self-repair functionality offline.

[Zombies start crawling out of containers. Leon coughs and draws his shotgun.]

Leon: Yeah yeah... Let’s get this over with.

Announcement: The elevator will arrive shortly. The elevator has arrived.

[Leon enters the elevator, practically exhausted. He leans against the wall to keep from falling.]

Leon: Almost there, Sherry.

Sherry: ...Leon...

[Leon has a severe coughing fit.]

Leon: Shit...

[He somehow manages to reach Pandora, walking slowly as every step is an effort. He climbs the stairs, step by agonizing step.]

GRACE ASHCROFT Meanwhile

[Grace plays the video named after her.]

Alyssa: What kind of legacy do you want to leave behind?

Spencer: My research opened Pandora’s box, unleashing disaster upon the world.

Alyssa: Except Elpis...the goddess of hope? Or so the myth goes.

Spencer: A blind hope.

Alyssa: What do you mean?

Spencer: Humans cannot predict when death will come for them. This is why they have hope. I was wrong... and I am plagued by guilt. Happiness cannot be achieved at the expense of others. I think that’s enough for today.

Alyssa: Why did you accept my request for an interview?

[A researcher brings a child to Spencer and hands her over.]

Alyssa: Who is th—? Is that one of your subjects?

Spencer: Of course not. She was alone in the world. I took her to make amends.

Alyssa: Is she...?

Spencer: Perfectly normal. Just an average child needing a home. She... is my hope. (to the child) Aren’t you beautiful? Would you like to hold her?

Alyssa: Oh! Um... OK.

[She approaches and takes the child in her arms.]

Alyssa: She’s adorable.

Alyssa: What’s her name?

Spencer: Grace.

Alyssa: Grace. Is there anything else you’d like to tell me?

Spencer: I’ve said my piece. I only hope it serves a requiem for those who have passed.

[The video ends. Grace stares at the blank screen for a long time. Then she notices on the monitor screen, Lyon (Leon) struggling to climb the stairs. He is now vomiting blood.]

Grace: Leon? Leon!

[Leon slides down the door to Pandora, never making it inside.]

Grace: I need to hurry.

[Alyssa’s Interview Notes]
16th, 13:00, Ozwell E. Spencer
- World War and Cold War. Founded despair. Loquacious.
- T-Virus, bioweapons. Incomplete research.
- Immortality, memory transfer, advanced breed of human, mind control.
All for the evolution of humanity?
- Bioterroism and human experimentation.
No response to questions. Doubt?
- Elpis will be their... {redacted}
Elpis? Look it up later.
More rational than expected. A "pure" scientist. An idealist.
That purity was the origin of madness?
A twisted genius at his core.
Some hesitation in his speech.
Is he hiding something? Anger? Regret?

[Letter from Patrick]
Ms. Alyssa Ashcroft,
I hope this letter finds you in good health. My name is Patrick, and I am writing to you as the butler of Ozwell E. Spencer. Perhaps you remember me.
I’d like to extend my gratitude once more to you for taking the time to interview Master Ozwell. To inform you today to inform of his last will and testament.
In his later years, my master was often in a state of unrest and his speech was somewhat jumbled. As such, his last will and testament was quite unintelligible aside from the following passage.
I would appreciate if you could read it carefully.
Kindly respond at your earliest convenience.
Below follows an excerpt from the will.
I designate Alyssa Ashcroft as the guardian of my adopted daughter, Grace.
She will be safe in her care.
Ozwell E. Spencer

Grace: This is finally my chance to do something.

[She runs to Leon.]

Grace: Leon! Leon! Oh no. Hey! It’s me, it’s Grace. Please wake up. Come on. Wake up, wake up. Hey! Hey. Hey you.

[Leon slowly regains consciousness.]

Leon: I was just resting my eyes.

[He coughs.]

Grace: You’re OK. Let me help you.

[She takes Leon’s arm and helps him stand.]

Leon: Let’s do this.

Grace: OK.

[They slowly enter Pandora. Zeno is still standing there, smoking.]

Grace: I-don’t know the password.

Leon: It’s OK, Zeno left it wide open for us. Any wrong code will do. It’ll destroy Elpis.

Grace: Let’s try.

Leon: Grace, whatever it takes... I can buy you some time.

Grace: No. No, no, I have an idea.

Leon: I trust you. I trust you.

Zeno: So, the prodigal daughter returns.

Grace: I know the password.

Zeno: Fulfill your destiny, and all will be forgiven.

[No longer having the strength to stand, Leon falls to the floor.]

Grace: O-Only if you let Leon live.

[Zeno stubs out his cigarette.]

Zeno: Very well.

[Grace approaches the keyboard... she has a choice—enter the wrong code and destroy Elpis, or try to enter the correct one and release Elpis.]

Release Elpis

[Grace remembers what she heard.]

Alyssa: Please know that you are my hope.

Spencer: She is my hope. A blind hope.

Grace: OK...

[She types "HOPE" on the keyboard.]

Grace: This is it.

[She presses the ENTER key.]

[The circular element in the center of the panel, connected to several metal tubes, begins to rotate slowly. Something is happening; the room seems to come alive. A minute passes, and someone enters, though we don’t yet see who. The circular element extends outward, revealing several sealed test tubes with flames inside.]

Leon: What’re you doing, Grace?

Grace: Spencer regretted what he did! He n—

[Zeno shoves her away from the panel.]

Zeno: Well done.

Grace: Y-You promised.

Zeno: Yes, that I would let him live.

[He injects the contents of a test tube into his neck. The black veins on his face disappear.]

Zeno: Mr. Kennedy... I give you the honor of experiencing my power firsthand.

Grace: I’m not sure Elpis is what you think it is. There’s nothing special about me. I-I was never any key.

[Something is happening to Zeno...]

Grace: Spencer wanted to make amends. He...

[Zeno senses some changes. He takes off his glasses and approaches Grace.]

Zeno: But you released Elpis. What is it? Tell me!

[He tries to attack Grace, but Leon, with his last ounce of strength, pushes him away. Zeno tries to use his powers, but nothing happens.]

Zeno: Why? My powers…

Grace: Elpis is Spencer’s atonement. It’s an antiviral.

[We finally learn who entered the room. It is Victor himself, looking battered from the recent explosion. He has lost an arm and is covered in wounds. Victor laughs and removes his helmet.]

Victor: Amazing. I am humbled by my master’s genius.

[Zeno threateningly advances towards Victor.]

Zeno: Your research was wrong. Elpis wasn’t a weapon. There was never a key.

Victor: Spencer’s paper was obviously incomplete. There was no connection between Grace and Emily.

Zeno: Do you know how much time and money I wasted on this?

Victor: Don’t you see the genius? With Elpis, all virus-based weapons are useless. The world order will be thrown into chaos.

Zeno: We wanted a weapon.

Victor: Instead Spencer gave us anarchy. I will carry his torch and bring his vision to life.

Zeno: You?

[He laughs.]

Zeno: You and Spencer were a means to an end.

Victor: Yet he outwitted you all.

Zeno: Spencer defied us and paid the price with his life. He was nothing.

Victor: You are nothing but an imitation.

Zeno: It’s over, Victor. The Connections is done with you.

[Victor makes a sweeping motion—his arm regrows into a tentacle, and this tentacle severs Zeno’s head. His body falls helplessly to the floor. Grace clutches the test tube containing Elpis in her hands.]

Grace: We can’t let him have it.

[With a swift motion, Victor stabs Grace in the abdomen. She falls to one knee. Victor’s voice changes, becoming deeper.]

Victor: Your ignorance is staggering.

Grace: Leon. It’s a cure.

[She stabs the contents of the test tube into Leon’s arm. The black veins on his arm disappear.]

Grace: It’s working... Leon, it’s working! Wake up!

Victor: Now...

[He picks up one of the test tubes and presses several buttons on the keyboard.]

Victor: Let it all come down. All of it.

[Leon regains consciousness.]

Leon: Grace, what happened?

[The platform begins to shake, and the iron bridges leading to it detach. This isn’t a controlled mechanism but destruction, as the platform tilts and crashes against the wall, destroying the red capsules.]

Leon: It’s gonna go! Grab something!

[The platform collapses. Leon successfully jumps off and lands on his feet.]

Leon: Grace. Grace!

[Victor approaches him.]

Leon: Time to bury Umbrella’s last skeleton.

[The long-awaited final battle begins!]

Victor: Spencer’s vision lives through me, and I will see that it is brought to fruition!

Leon: And how many more will have to die for that vision?

[Victor continues to mutate during the fight, gaining the ability to control electricity.]

Victor: You insufferable...fool... My master’s future… is absolute.

Leon: Seems you’re reaching your limit.

[Leon picks up an RPG-7 lying on the floor and fires a rocket at the weakened Victor.]

Leon: It’s over.

[Victor grows several more tentacles, but his body can’t handle the strain, and he falls into the abyss.]

Leon: Good riddance.

[Suddenly, a giant hand grips the platform. Victor, transformed into a monster the size of four stories, climbs onto the platform and clings on with tentacles to avoid falling off. Describing its form is absolutely impossible—the creature is abstract and extremely grotesque. But I’ll venture to guess it’s a giant bloody crab!]

Leon: A Nemesis... No wonder you’re so damn relentless.

[A truly bloody battle begins. The creature is literally a mass of meat with weak spots. Leon shoots at them, then climbs onto the monster, wielding his axe and covering himself in tens of liters of blood. The creature, once Victor, slams the ceiling in rage. Soon, it has no strength left to fight Leon. He blows off its limbs one by one, then aims at a huge, exposed bloody eye.]

Leon: This time, you ain’t getting back up.

[He fires. The creature explodes in a fountain of blood, and Leon, spinning his pistol on his finger, holsters it. Meanwhile, the ceiling threatens to collapse. Leon returns to searching for Grace.]

Leon: Grace! Grace, where are you!? Sherry? Sherry, come in. Sherry! Shit. Grace!

[He finds her lying on the floor in the far part of the room. Her arm is broken.]

Leon: Grace, hang on. Fuck. Grace. Grace.

Grace: Leon...

[The ceiling is already cracking at the seams.]

Leon: We need to get you outta here. Come on...

[He lifts her, and Grace screams in pain.]

Leon: Let’s get you up.

[Pieces of the ceiling fall away. Leon looks around—all exits seem blocked.]

Grace: There’s no way out, is there?

[Leon shakes his head.]

Leon: Well, I’m not gonna leave your side. I’m gonna sit right here with you.

[The lights gradually go out, plunging everything into darkness.]

Grace: I guess this is it then.

[After a tense minute, a bright searchlight switches on somewhere above. Soldiers in unusual sand-colored uniforms with black cloaks descend into the room. Their faces are covered by balaclavas, and night vision devices cover their eyes.]

Umber Eyes: Leon S. Kennedy?

Leon: Depends who’s asking.

Umber Eyes: Alpha. Do you read me, sir? Yeah, they’re safe. I got ’em. Yes, sir.

[He approaches Leon.]

Umber Eyes: Mr. Kennedy... I have a message from Captain Redfield.

[Some time passes. Our heroes are now on the surface, where military personnel are bustling about and heavy equipment has been brought in to clear the rubble.]

Leon: I’ll be damned. Can’t believe that antiviral actually worked. I feel better than I have in ages.

Sherry: Thank god. I’m glad you’re OK.

Leon: I’ve got a dose with your name on it. You’ll be back in action in no time.

Sherry: Thank you, Leon.

Leon: Would have been a lot smoother if Chris hadn’t been so late to the party.

Sherry: Where is Chris anyway?

Leon: No idea. I’m sure I’ll run into him at some point.

[He notices Grace sitting under a blanket, drinking a hot beverage.]

Leon: I’ll call you back.

[He approaches Grace.]

Leon: It’s over, then.

Grace: Yeah. Elpis really was our last hope.

Leon: Well let’s pray Umbrella hasn’t left us any more nasty surprises.

Grace: I wish we could’ve saved Emily.

Leon: Grace, I didn’t hit any of her vitals. She could still be alive.

Grace: What are you saying?

Leon: Maybe we can save her.

[Grace smiles. As Leon leaves, he removes his gloves and throws them away. We see a news broadcast on the NTS channel with the headline "Bioweapons Lab Discovered in Raccoon City".]

Reporter: The government has confirmed the existence of an actively trading bioweapons lab located here in the ruins of Raccoon City, the origin point for the worldwide spread of bio-organic weapons. This illegal facility appears to have been in operation for decades.

[The next broadcast—"Recent Deaths Linked to Raccoon City Incident?"]

Newscaster A: Sources say that the extension of the lockdown and the recent series of mysterious deaths may be related to tragic events in Raccoon City 28 years ago.

[Another news channel—"Investigation into Spencer and Umbrella Reopened"]

Newscaster B: Evidence seized in Raccoon City has led the justice department to reopen its investigation into Ozwell Spencer and the long defunct Umbrella Corporation. Some believe the government deliberately drove Umbrella into bankruptcy.

[Back to NTS—"Alyssa Ashcroft Killed in Cover-Up?"]

Newscaster A: The late Alyssa Ashcroft is credited with cracking the Ozwell Spencer story. Conspiracy theorists are already claiming that she was killed in a cover-up and that the organization responsible is secretly controlling our government.

[Another channel—"President Denies Government Involvement"]

Newscaster B: Tonight, in a speech from the Oval Office, the president is expected to reject allegations of any government involvement since the Raccoon City Incident.

[Channel 24 World News—"YOUNG GIRL RESCUED FROM ’BIO-TERROR FRONT’ IN RHODES HILL". The video shows the sanatorium surrounded by police and medics. Emily is still inside the horrific monster she became and barely breathing. In the next scene, Grace returns to working on reports at the FBI. She’s talking on the phone with someone, possibly Leon.]

Grace: And Sherry’s OK? Good, I’m so glad. Emily? Yeah, uh, she’s doing great. I’m actually teaching her how to read.

Nathan: Grace! Grace!

[Grace is distracted from the phone.]

Nathan: Where’s that report?

Grace: Sorry. Leon, gotta go. Catch up soon.

[With confidence, she grabs a report and runs after her boss. On her desk are photos of her with her mother, and of her and Emily. Next, a short epilogue awaits us. Other soldiers approach the corpse of a BSAA soldier.]

BSAA Radio: Hey! Respond! What’s your status!?

Unknown Soldier: Remaining BSAA forces have been neutralized. Retrieving the objective before they send in the "wolves."

[The second soldier takes something from the body of the slain BSAA soldier, perhaps removing a camera from his helmet.]

THE END

Destroy Elpis

[Deciding to destroy Elpis, Grace hears other voices in her head.]

Spencer: I was wrong, and I am plagued by guilt.

Leon: I’m gonna destroy Elpis. You promise... you’ll end this.

[She types the word "DESTRUCTION"]

Grace: This is it.

[She presses the ENTER key. Power to the panel is cut off.]

Zeno: What did you do?

[The room begins to collapse.]

Grace: What I had to.

Leon: Grace, get out of here!

[Zeno grabs Grace. While he is distracted, Leon runs up and buries his axe in his neck. Leon and Grace jump onto the falling metal bridges leading to the main laboratory.]

Leon: Go! I’m right behind you!

[However, the bridge tilts sharply upward. And Leon himself is in no hurry to follow Grace.]

Grace: Leon! What are you doing!? Come on!

[The platform in the center is about to collapse.]

Grace: Leon!

[Zeno pulls the axe from his neck. Leon prepares for hand-to-hand combat, but Zeno is significantly faster and stronger. In the next clash, he breaks Leon’s arm.]

Grace: Leon!

[Zeno lands numerous blows on Leon, breaking ribs. Leon falls to his knees.]

Grace: No! No! Leon!

Leon: At least...I could save you.

[Zeno draws his revolver.]

Grace: No, no, no, no, no, no!

[He shoots Leon in the head, blowing it to pieces. Then the platform falls and explodes, killing Zeno. Grace sobs over the fallen Leon. Lost in grim thoughts, she makes her way to the surface, where a helicopter awaits her.]

Grace: I wish I could’ve saved you, Leon.
